The wedge and around is heavily eaten/rotten, so I'm not sure whether to restore it or just replace the scales altogether. Do you think it's the original scales? If so, I'll try harder.

I would assume those are the original scales. It's pretty typical to find that style of WB in horn scales of that shape, and often in honey color.
