Thread: The IXL PIPE Shop

Here's one I plan on keeping. A 13/16 humpback that I believe was reground to be nearly a full hollow. There don't seem to be many big old Pipes around...

Here is another beauty I've picked up recently, after gentle cleaning and honing by manah

Mine doesn't say IXL, but it's a Wostenholm pipe.

It just came in the mail from Steve @ The Invisible Edge. Still in oil and therefore the metal isn't as pretty as could be. They're also just quick pics, which doesn't help either.

One more work by Geo.Wostenholm.
The blade is etched "The Prince's Own".
The blade 7/8.

Do these get me into the club?

5/8 square point with a faint smile. It needs new scales as the pivot pin is loose and there is too much material missing from one side of the bakelite for me to hold out much hope of re pinning it. I'm thinking bloodwood. From the thread I posted trying to ID it, I think its probably mid to late 1800s.



And the finest razor in my small collection, a 6/8 frameback. I'll post a thread for ID later, but given the fact that it says the patent for this design was granted in 1850, I'm going with mid 1800s. Also cool is I believe it would classify as a stub tail .

oldblades was gracious enough to pass along this old Wostenholm wedge to me this last weekend.

She's a little rough, but still a beauty


Then he also passed along another Wostie that I first thought was dyed horn, but Tim and I think is turtle shell. Either way, she's a beauty too

I wonder if that old wedge is a J or a G... And what else might have been worn off with the years.

When did J Wosteholm start stamping razors? [Edit: I'm not finding anything for J Wostenholm (as a separate razor manufacturing firm) earlier than 1848. this bone handled razor strikes me as at least a decade or two earlier, but I could of course be wrong in my guess]

"pipe" granted 22nd Dec., 1694, by the Cutlers' Company, Sheffield.
