Hello I have never see a 19TH century razor with wood scales out from the factury, wood is generaly remplacement home made scales, your razor's scales are made out black horn, VR is the stamp for the Victoria reign from 1837 to 1850, after that date they don't use the stamp mutch...I date it from the beginning of the 1850

    Why so?
The V(crown)R stamp was used 1837-1901.
The 1850s-1870s was a time of frameback. At that time they were popular.

I may be wrong, but I own a great number of sheffield straight razors, maybe 300-400, and I have notice that the "reign's stamps" (GR WR VR), the last one, VR, is found only on the earlier model from the biginning of the very long victoria's Reign (1837-1901), I think the habit was lost by cutlers, because the reign was so long and that doesn't make sens anymore to produce razor with the VR and crown on it?

    Just my guess...

For the frameback, I think the "mode" date from the 1840 (see the Swiss Lecoutre early razors), so this model could be from 1850.

This is an "add" of the years 1850

Hi guys just wanted to join the JR club picked this one up from a car boot sale for £20.00 all the rust appears to be not that bad and will polish out with some work.

Can anyone give me any info on the stamp marks on the back of the blade as I've not found out if they have any significance.

Pics to show her off in the pre restored state will upload some more when I've restored her to a worthy state.

Here's another JR "Military Razor" in ivory.

Old repair at the toe appears to be coin silver and is one piece all the way around.

One of the best shavers that I own.

Default Joseph Rodgers & Sons, 6/8, ¾ hollow, Frosted Blue acrylic scales

    Hi guys,

Here's my recently acquired Joseph Rodgers & Sons, 6/8, ¾ hollow, Frosted Blue acrylic scales tapered with a genuine ivory wedge. I got it from Max and again he did a terrific restoration and finish with the scales.

Earlier, I had already admired the clear see-through scales on one of Max’s other razors. And when this one came along, it was around my birthday, I got it!
The unnecessary buys are the nicest, most of the times, this one too!

    Thanks,
    Paul

My recently acquired JR&Sons not sure about age although its not stamped England on the tang so the earlier production I believe. This is my first Straight Razor and I think I may be keeping this one for a while. It's beautiful, but needs a good hone. The scales are Olive wood, natural and blood stained.

Let me know what you guys think.

There are some truly gorgeous examples in these pages.
