Not just that, but they are truly excellent razors.

For the Record, regarding the proper pronunciation of "Shumate",,,, I can trace my ancestry and last name back to the late 1700's and NO ONE in the Shumate family pronounces the the name other than SHOOOOOOO-MATE!!! Stop trying to "fancy up" the name! It's the Anglicized form of a surname with German origins the spelling of the name probably being "Schmette". This is a name of locative origin meaning tree stump, or someone who lived near a tree stump. It might have some Slavic influence as Schmette is cream in Slavic dialects. Any other questions?

NOOOOOOO, Shumate is of Germanic derivation, possibly with some Slavic influence, although there is an argument about being of French origin. It IS pronounced SHOOOO-MATE..... I can trace my ancestry back to the late 1700's and NO ONE,,, pronounces the name other than "Shoe-Mate"! Jeff Shumate

Great thread with some very nice American razors.
I've just added a Shumate to my line up and appreciated the feedback on this thread such that it prompted my purchase.

Still need to hone her up but she was quite clean after I oiled her up and hit with some Maas.
Looking forward to the test shave.
    Cheers.

    Review
    Price: 10/10
Taken from Altus@ilRasoio, in the forum BST, the price of €50 including shipping for this little gem was a real bargain, in my opinion.

    Quality: 9/10
Simple but perfectly calibrated. Just perfect.

    Grip: 7/10
The knurling just down, with smooth and rounded spine, saw the light weight and small size does not give issue about controllin, although it is not the most solid grip desirable.

    Ease of use: 10/10
It's the thinner blade than I have at the moment, and the lightest.
Practically a butterfly alights gently tight and difficult areas. View the smile conformation, or better to say "Curved" since everything including the spine is arched, as the vintage ad says at the time: <The only kind That will give a clean, "smartless" shave>. This because it reproduces a slide cutting, usually associated with safety razors of the "Slant" type.

    Aggressiveness: 7/10
It's a steel very "soft" and gentle on the skin .
A great Sheffield , easy to sharpen ... easy to love.

    Conclusion: 10/10
The only Shumate in my possession at the moment, but I was very favorably impressed. This in particular is a little jewel, so pleasant that I consider the small blades with new eyes.

I guess it's time for my introductory post. I have an heirloom Shumate 'Ben Hur' that was my grandfather's. It sat for 30-50 years completely untended. Last month I discovered the Straight Razor Place, pulled out the old Shumate, gave it a few laps on the strop and had my first straight razor shave in about 35 years. It is beautifully patina'd but does have a couple of rust spots, too. It is currently in the capable hands of gssixgun for a clean & hone. I'll post a picture of it after cleaning.

Picked up a Vulcan, cool "groovy" scales. Getting it pro restored right now because I'm a newbie dremel blade chipper (leaning on so-so brands)
Want to have talent resto the Vulcan

Any info on when shumate released the Vulcan?
I'm thinking it was around the time that vulcanized rubber was the buzz?

    Thanks
