Ok, I will start checking into the German front then. I just thought that Nespa was a Japanese brand. It is stamped Nespa 248 on the front side, and Chemical Steel on the back of the tang.

Might be.... Chemical Steel does seem to be a Japanese thing.

Ha, well either way, I think its a beautiful piece with a very hefty blade which is why I snagged it up in the first place. So I'm happy with it wherever/whenever it came from. This is part of the fun too, trying to decipher the history of these blades ya know...

I have looked at some German and Japanese lists and it does not show on either.
Paul Schultze razors from Germany were great quality. Perhaps a Japanese play to garner recognition?

I have wondered about that too. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as the saying goes. That or just an attempt to piggyback onto the quality reputation of another maker. Guilt by association.

Well, I cannot see the Japanese making razors for the German market.
Perhaps they wanted their own people to think they were buying a German razor??
I remember back in the 60's when Japan copied everything under the sun, sort of how China seems to do these days.celticcrusader and BobH like this.

Id like to put it to stone and see how she shaves, but it looks to have the original edge. Hate to kill a unicorn here. Whatever the quality of the steel, at least it seems to be a rare one huh?
