Well I only have a couple of razors so this won't be an issue il use the ren wax for the scales which is wood or horn and I plan to use a touch on mineral oil on the blades with an applicator pot I've seen used for camellia oil. I think this should keep me in good sted. I dry my razors after ever shave and strop then too before leaving them in a draw on a bed of tissue till I get home from work.

It's certainly a good idea . I managed to find an applicator for £11.00 plus postage so went with that. Lynn Abrams spoke about it one of his videos.

Jody sorry for the stupid question but by lap I take it you mean once up once down = one lap ?
I've heard that the Crox side doesn't need to be used very often maybe once a month, would you agree

I use the leather side each time for 50/100 laps. The side chrome do not use it hardly ever, I can do even 20 shaven. When I use the side chrome 30/40 laps.
I agree that it is a subjective matter.

I strictly follow Mastro Livi advices, as usual. Leather side every time I shave, as well as hand palm stropping, then leather side at the end of shaving in order to make sure the edge gets dry and no water will stay there.
As for linen side - that is the side where you apply chromium oxide paste - I barely use it. Like Jody said, this is a quite subjective thing and therefore your mileage may vary. As for me, I usually need to pass my razor on the CrOx every six months or so, however every time the razor starts to tug. This also depends on many factors, such as how you use your straight razor and how you strop and hone it, hardness of your beard. As for honing, I usually need to use a hone or stone every 18 months or so. Also in this case, it depends on how you use the razor and how you strop it. On this regard, the quality of strop and the stropping technique is absolutely fundamental and truly make a huge difference. The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

I haven't ever had to hone I have always turned to diamond pasted strops and that seams to keep my razors sharpe indefinitely. But I was going to buy a 12k stone for touch ups
