My first shave ready SR was a Dovo Best Quality. I still use this razor in my travel kit and the shave it provides is exceptional. I do agree that the balance is a bit...Interesting...I'll say. I think I will rescale it to help fix that. Overall it is a blade that I enjoy and does a great job.

This club needs more pictures! Here are three. The first two are CarrieM's. The first one is a limited edition in MOP. The last one is mine.

Now see, I have a Dovo (but it is the "best Qual")...So it is okay to me...What I want, and just heaven't gotten yet is the cracked ices older Dovo that struts its stuff.....But saying all that, yes I do like Dovo, I just am like most people (i think and enjoy the more unusual blades for collectables....Most Dovos are new and will be around for quite awhile...If they stopped making them they would go fo a grand a piece. Oh yea, I forgot my fav duuh! I have a Bismark...That is my Sunday shave..That's my classy one..

My first razor was a Dovo 5/8 Black Star w/ Brown Wood scales. I have 7 Dovo's in my collection.
Black Star Brown Wood Scales
Bismark # 25 Square Point Bone Scales
Bergischer Lowe
Bismark Red Scales
5/8 Best Quality Black Scales
5/8 #38 Black Scales with Burg Graf on the Scales
6/8 Best Quality White Scales
They all are great shavers but I use the 6/8 Best Quality the most. The ones with Gold wash I shave with but I don't want to mess them up.

Just finished shaving with my 5/8 Best Quality. I love my Dovos! Took a nice hot shower, whipped up some MWF lather, perhaps a bit too dry this time. Ran her up and down the Illinois linen and then the Russian leather strop. A dream to shave with, no nicks, passes right over my moles without a problem. Finished up with some Proraso post cream, and Proraso aftershave.
Life is good! Thank you Straightrazorplace.com!!!!!

Thanked: 983I have a Dovo that is my main 'goto' razor...I also have aTimor and to compare them shavewise they are on equal terms. The Dovo has more features, insofar as a razor has features, than the Timor. And therein lies the reason for favouring the Dovo...The Dovo was my first though and she'll always hold a special place in this mans heart.
I'll re-do these photo's one day, they're not the best.

Some nice razors in this thread! Wintchase, I love that red Bismarck, and the scales on that Best Quality! I wonder what percentage of SRP newbies took their first strokes with a Dovo 5/8" Best Quality (including me and my son)?
I have drooled over many brands of razor on this forum, and hope to own many of them someday. Two of the prettiest, IMO, are the Bismarck, and the Bergischer Lowe. There are many roads to sharp.
