I'm not saying a Rolls is the greatest razor ever made - I'm just saying I got as good a shave off one this morning as I've ever had from any razor. Three passes and (an unstretched) water touch-up. If you get the blade sharp and the angle way steep they are remarkable razors by any measure.
I used some ancient leftover (from days gone by) mug that never lathered well but, this time, added five drops of glycerine. The soap, she was was magnifico. The shave, she was smooth as silk. Love the Rolls.

Maxing out the blade's edge is surely the divider between a magnificent shave and a raggedy experience. For excellent advice on maintenance, sharpening, history or restoration there is a goldmine of information here.

I have a late Viscount an early Imperial 1, a late and an early Imperial 2. They are a mishmash really of good and bad the Viscount is super, of the other 3 there are two broken hones I reckon I can make 1 really nice late Frankenstein imperial 2 and I wont buy anymore after that although I have had one sent to my sisters house which I haven't seen yet. 99p was the cheapest £3.19 the dearest. That's a beauty you have there ecormier. Good luck with it

I kind of just bought it for 'show' but after reading this thread, I think I'll have to give it a go (I may sharpen the blade the same way as my straights... norton 4/8...). My interest is peaked...

I'm following the info on the link above and it is invaluable to anyone who owns a Rolls

Sign me up. I just received my second NOS Rolls, a Viscount model to go with my NOS Imperial 2 model. I will be shaving with them somewhere down the line. Considering what they have been going for lately I fell like I snuck in the back door and stole them. Won't say the prices I paid but they were old fashioned enough to go with the age of the Rolls. The Viscount model even had the insert that lists the dealers in almost every country in the world.
BTW I have an extra strop side to a Imperial 2 model in almost pristine condition. If interested PM me."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

dkshave, if you put Rolls Razor in the search box on eBay you will get more than you will ever want to see listings for Rolls Razor. If you go through all of them you may have a full beard by the time you are done. Don't bid on any unless you can see that the hone side is not broken and that there is a complete handle and not too much wear on the strop side. Also check SRP classifieds for any listing of them and even put a notice in the wanted section and possibly an SRP member is ready to sell one.
Good luck"The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."
