I think people here are usually very polite, you especially see it in posts when someone shows a "first try".
There will always be someone who takes offense of the help people trying to offer.

I love all the crazy ideas people have and it's as fun to see the "first tries" as it is to see some master piece.

That's it 100% The History. The history is whats got me hooked more then anything else. The artists who created these masterpieces (and artist they are) spent there blood during very hard times. Working in hell earning hell wages and still producing such elegant creations. Its my way of honoring there work in keeping the artists original concepts. Granted that's totally subjective, but if I can at least keep the materials as similar as I can as well as the period shape & design I feel I accomplished my goal.

I was one of those who went for the shiny razors with the tricked out scales in the beginning, I'm now atoning for my sins and have been replacing those bight colored G-10 scales for period correct horn.

All the professional restorers go with the TRENDS like this thread title. I know its a business and they have to produce whats gonna sell. And I guess in my happy little world all would be happy with Horn, Bone, Ivory, black cell, Bakelite. If black cell will sit on the restores shelves they will have to find the latest trend to move the product. Heres an example remember ghost jade??? That was a hot item at one point. If you housed a turd in ghost jade it would be sold in a minute and a half. That trend kind of disappeared lately. Whats next???

Just for rest of the discussion about encouraging the new guys, I personally don't look at the choice of materials or colors etc: as that is personal, it makes no difference if I like it, as it isn't my razor, I only look at the workmanship and the functionality...
