I think you guys should all just chill a bit, it's all getting a bit heavy. Just be nice to each other for crying out loud. If you can't be polite be silent.

This was supposed to be a joke this is one of the legendary DEMON Barber Sweeney Todd STRAIGHT RAZOR - Johnny Depp Movie Knifes. If you throw a ball and knock the 3 flat doll things off the stands, you could win one! I repeat, this was a joke, an unfunny one, well, I thought it was kind of funny but not for the reason you think. Best wishes, I'm going to look into Badger and Blade, sniff, it was my fault, not yours......

Yes, was just reading the thread...didn't know the razor police were on patrol here imposing their personal value systems on other people's choices. Must be a lonely narrow world to live in.

Seems more like sarcasm, but you are good at it though. (see I made it a compliment, therefore polite ).
I was just observing that things were getting a bit heated.

Agreed my opinion may be a bit one sided being that its only my opinion but if we don't have these open debates whats the point of any forum. Only to throw a wow looks great and nice job. Sounds like a pretty boring place to be. I certainly don't mind someone telling me I'm Full of crap, or even hey this scale or wedge I worked on, don't look just right. I wont crumble I'm made of tougher stuff then that. If we didn't have passion in our convictions we would stand stagnate. I certainly don't mind in the least to stand on a topic that has the lesser amount of the popular vote.
At the very least you do learn about a topic, others and even learn about yourself.

    Very Respectfully,

    Good point and agreed.

It can be a slippery slope however.

So when talking about remaining true to the original vision of a razor, what's the standard? Are all and only original parts used? Are the tools used to restore the razor only tools available at the time the razor was manufactured? Use of any modern tool would violate the integrity of the work? Now of course, holding true to this standard would also prevent any modern day parts, materials, chemicals or preservatives being used. All parts must be from original material and manufactured from that era.

And, of course, honing a razor on any synthetic stone or hone not available at that time would be a gross violation of the history of the razor would it not?

Should the position be held that anyone performing any work on a razor who doesn't hold to this strict criteria then become a poser? A destroyer of history?

In my opinion, that's the slippery slope of discussions like this, when you impose your value's on someone or something else, there always someone that will impose theirs on you farther down the line. One person holds true to the original design of the razor, another comes along and say's original parts, techniques, and materials used weren't original, therefore it's not authentic. It's a caricature of the original.

How can you argue against that...you can't. Hence, we're back to what works for you, and what you like, and what you may like today, may evolve and change over time.

    As the saying goes.....YMMV.
