Thanked: 1903You will not regret buying the Le Grelot, trust me. It's one of the few razors I'll never sell. And even if you should not like it, you'll have little difficulty selling it on with minimum financial loss.

I have a 5/8 and a 6/8 dovo full hollow and a le Grelot. They feel nothing alike (or sound for that matter) The Le Grelot is much heavier and stiffer therefore giving it a quite sound while shaving. The thumb notch does make it a little harder to strop, but give it a good feeling while shaving. I like the 6/8 size better than the 4/8 or 5/8 but that is a personal choice. I have a 8/8 as well but that is a big change from the 5/8, the 6/8 size does not feel so foreign.
I like the razor you may too.

Thanked: 21Well, if I can still find one for sale when I get paid, I may just take the plunge. I looked on blueprinciple's site, but I couldn't find the page for the Le Grelot.
Was originally thinking about one of the less expensive ones with the plastic scales, but started thinking horn scales might make it balance a bit better. Not sure if I can justify the price difference, since I still wonder if I'll like the blade.

It's here. For some reason the TI site is not listed with the others but separately.

Thanked: 21That is a very nice looking razor indeed, but I think I'll have to try out the plastic one first. Just don't want to spend too much on another to try out a different blade.

I have to ask - Is the Le Grelot seriously heavier and that much better a straight razor or is it just people's limited experience with 1/4 -wedge ground razors that create the "Wow" factor of a new heavy blade as compared to most razors out there in the full hollow realm? I am not trying to insult anyone, I am just curious if it truly that much better a 1/4-wedge than say a wacker 1/4-wedge or...old school butcher wedge?

I wonder why they stamped "Spartacus" in all those blades, including some Le Grelot...
You can't compare a 5/8 Le Grelot wedge with a meat chopper 7/8 or 8/8. The quarter-hollow/wedge Le Grelot is not that heavy because, well, it's a 5/8! If it measured 7/8 or 8/8 it would weight considerably more, of course.
The Le Grelot is not and doesn't feel like a meat chopper. It feels more like a Wapi.

yes - my understanding was the le grelot 1/4's were 6/8. I have no experience with one nor have I even held one...yet I was more curious if they were truly a great razor among razors - a best value - or - part of the hype cycle of NOS blades. Again, am not trying to instigate anything here.
