Wait, this was the razor that I meant to post about to show the similarity of the new King Cutter blade etch to the old one. Sorry.

Silver steel has no silver in it. It has about .4% chromium though. It is just a good quality tool steel. The same steel is used for all the carbon steel razors in Solingen no matter what it says. The same 440C high carbon stain resistant steel is used for all th stainless razors from there.
Silver steel is common tool steel in the UK that is supplied as a centerless ground round bar. It is roughly equivalent to drill rod in the US.
The steel is defined under specification BS-1407, with the closest European equivalent being 1.2210 (although this steel contains vanadium). The composition is as follows: carbon 0.95–1.25, manganese 0.25–0.45, chromium 0.35–0.45, silicon 0.40 max, phosphorus 0.045 max, sulfur 0.045 max.[1]
In the annealed state is has a hardness of 27 RHC. It can be hardened to 64 RHC.[2]Last edited by John Crowley; 08-04-2009 at 12:17 AM.

Thanked: 488They sure do look like the older ones. I also saw one that was a bit larger with a Spanish point. I think it was a 6/8th. It was really nice. That was on Bokers website in Germany.

I have got some old Böker razors, among them an Edelweiss, too.
They are my best razors, easily take a tremendous sharp edge and shave buttery smooth. Well, they have some littles stains here and there, but I could buy them for a fair price. There was a discussion about new Böker razors in the German razor forum, where some users were quite disappointed by the new ones. They are extremely expensive and some were not happy about the steel quality and the blade geometry. Unfortunately I don't have a new Böker, so I can't really compare and I don't want to spoil your happiness about your razors either. I am now really curious, what you will tell us about these razors. Personally I can't imagine, that they are of bad quality, but I do agree, that prices are quite high, so I won't buy a new one.

New Boker Edelweiss at SRD
Gentlemen,
I communicated with Lynn earlier today about the Edelweiss and he told me he liked quite a bit. Of course, I have the highest regard for Lynn's opinion. I'd grab the Boker in an instant, but with three Thiers-Issards in the past 30 days, I am tapped out. I mean really TAPPED OUT.
Regards,
Obie
