Default Your Preferred Straight Razor Point

    My dear Jimbo,

Forgive my ignorance, but what is "Lou Point"?

Also, gentlemen, I have read reference in these posts to "Irish" point. There, too, forgive my ignorance, but what is an "Irish" point? Our friend Richmondesi alludes to "French" and "Irish" points being interchangeable.

    Now I am really curious.

As always, your expertise will help enlighten this straight razor pilgrim. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Obie

I think they can be used interchangeably. I refer to my Ellis razor as an Irish point because that is what he called it, but it looks just like a French point to me (it is sloped, the picture somewhat fails to capture it). Maybe a French point is more rounded at the tip whereas an Irish point is a spike point at the tip?

Quite right. However, Bill using that term exclusively (based on conversations that I've had with him; I'm not putting words in his mouth). Here's another quote from Alex on another thread

I like the modified Irish point the best. It is a French that has the toe sticking out just a little further. I like the toe out there without getting into the spikes, I find them a hassle.

    Take Care,
    R

    Obie,

    Sorry, an old in-joke!

Post number 15 in this thread. (Some good info in that thread as well...)

I personally like French, spike or square points, I think they look a little more interesting than round points, and love the accuracy I can get with them.

I prefer square, spike or barber's notch. They look more astheticly pleasing and I also like having to watch out for the point.

For daily shaving- round points. Quick and easy. (when compared to spikes, IMO)
I really like slightly rounded/neutered Spanish points and French points because the are accurate and elegant. All that said I really don't have beef with any point- the over aesthetic matters most.

I have two DOVOs which are both round points and a no namer which is a square point and I definately prefer the round points. Much less chance of stabbing yourself in the cheek with the round points..!
