A "French point" is technically an oblique point. points

An Irish point is similar to a Mexican point, a Brazillian point and several other made up names.

One thing I'm sure of from personal experience is that if you get too close to the ear on the WTG, and don't pay attention, you'll call it by a name that I can't print here.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Well, you know I'm trying to stay on the good side of the man, so that he would autograph me a copy of the rumored upcoming book on a CD format "How to make friends and influence shaving communities since 1991".

I have missed your earlier reference to the notes from Bill Hulkin, that's pretty cool - wish he'd sketched some of the 'others' too.

Some food for thought from Germany, 1939: Digitale Bibliothek - Münchener Digitalisierungszentrum - aptly named 'The Beauty of Form on the Straight Razor'. No French, Irish or otherwise outlandish points. Just square, rounded square, round, and oblique (with rounded tip). So there.

Dear custom makers, please do not miss page 29 where you can learn which combinations of point, spine, and tang were considered ugly.

    Regards,
    Robin
