gssixgun,
I took some shots to show the shoulder better. You may be onto something.

Thanked: 13246I don't know if I am onto to something or not, I haven't honed one of these in about 4 months now, but I would love to see other pics of them to compare that shoulder to... Also at the heel /edge meet it looks like the heel is lifting the edge off the hone because the shoulder comes down so far.. It almost looks like it needs to be ground back, like the razor has had about 1/8 of an inch honed away or that it was just a bad grind ...Looking in the razor clubs now to see if there is a pic...

That Livi looks like it's had a 1/8s of an inch or more honed off it. Totally unnecessary unless it shaved about 2000 times since it was made. Not honed properly? Shoulder lifting the edge wile honing? Lost temper? many possibilities.

Most overrated razor? I cannot say about Livis or DDs as i never had one, but of those razors i own my Filarmonica 14 is surely most overrated razor there is. No don't get me wrong. It is an excellent shaver and easy to hone, but so are most of my other razors as well.
I paid about 20€ of it and it was when eBay madness wasn't yet started. It is surely worth of it but not much more. Just a shaver among many others.
In fact i do not get the idea of something called 'best shaver'. In general, if the steel is good, it is up to anyones personal skills to make any razor shave like a dream.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

Hey,
I sure didn't mean to hi-jack this thread with my problems. You all have been very generous to respond.
I can see the way that excess grinding/honing has taken place on my Livi now that I make a point of looking. I didn't use due diligence when I made the purchase.
If the steel is too soft (for whatever reason) I would imagine that it has been honed excessively. As I said in the first post it was quite dull after every shave and needed more than mere stropping.
Thanks for all the replies. I may send it out for another opinion and let someone hone and shave with it. Not sure if it is worth it.
I retract my statement about Livi razors being overrated.

Truth. If someone learned how to correct a problem that surely is better than some small talk.
