So I picked up another Mastro Livi razor today. This one was originally purchased earlier this year by Sam and his good news of becoming a father (Congratulations) is my good fortune in acquiring this stunner. I thought it deserved some P160 and my custom Rodney Neep brush, also in blue buckeye burl. A match made in shaving heaven I feel.
I used it today and what a shave. I've always been in awe of the Livi Snake and a little intimidated tbh but this is just sublime to use. Balance is fantastic and I've really grown to love the longer tangs of Mastro Livi it's tough for me to go back to a normal razor. Only thing I need to master is how to hold it for ATG pass. It's a bit tricky but I'll master it for sure.
Now quick question for the experts. The damasco inox, does it need to be left with a coating of oil on on not as per my Damasteel?

Until an expert chimes in, I'll just say that inox, in the USA also known as stainless, is not completely rust proof. Stains less, but there is still some risk if not protected. So I treat my inox blades with the same care as my high carbon. Beautiful razor, congrats, and a congratualtions to Sam on the new addition to his family.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Jody, congratulations for this magnificent razor! A stunning beauty and, yes, I remember having seen this posted by Sam. Congratulations to him for having become a father. I am sure he will get another magnificent Mastro Livi razor soon.
I must say you thought about a wonderful combination for this shave: great soap, great brush and, of course, stellar razor. Just wow!
You know I do not consider myself an expert, but as far as my experience of restorer and collector can tell, Damasteel does not need a coating of oil. For sure, it does not hurt, of course. Being a stainless steel I am sure you can avoid the coating of oil or, as far as I can say, I have never had any rust issue with Mastro Livi damasteel razors (well, never had any issue with any of my Mastro Livi razors) and I can tell the same about the other 187 razors I have in my collection: the stainless steel razors never had a problem and I never used any coating of oil.
However, stainless steel (or inox) is not completely rust proof. Chances are far lower than carbon steel but, technically speaking, inox is not completely rust proof.

Cheers guys. I'll have to post a family pic soon. I just need to work out a nice way of showing the Snake. It's a tricky size to use a stand for. Need to be creative I think. Watch this space.

Thanked: 6Razorguy, I feel a bit jealous of you. You have 187 razor. I should work more and more ( not to buy razor, but to buy jewelery to make my wife's mouth shut) Phewww.... It must be hard for you to take care of them properly, if you try to shave with them in a row.. nearly Half a year .

Thanked: 6Yes jodypress, you should take a good pic of this beatiful snake razor, Sam had offered me this razor , and the pics he mailed ,were not so attractive. You say it has blue buckeye burl scales, as sam had told the same.. But it looks like it has more purple spots than blue places, am I right or is it just a trick of light.

I am now into straight razors, pogonotomy, restoring and collecting since a little more than ten years. All the razors in my collection are functioning and I use them all for shaving. I must admit the ones I use often and with regularity are the Mastro Livi razors. Once you try one of them, it is very hard for you to shave with something else (and this is something I told Jody when he came to Perugia and he wouldn't believe that. Dear Jody, resistance is futile: you cannot resist MLRAD! )
Taking care of my collection is a quite time consuming activity but I do that with passion, so it is a pleasure. I have a long rotation of razors during the year and some of them have been posted in the SOTD. However, although of this long rotation, the razors I use the most are Mastro Livi's.The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

Thanks Antonello, I'm colour blind so the subtle shades are lost on me....
It was pure luck that someone posted the eBay link on The Shaving Room and it was for sale at a price I could afford.Last edited by jodypress; 07-17-2014 at 10:31 PM.

I think I've found a suitable place for now and in hallowed company.
