I think it would be interesting for all the "photographers" to learn more technics and lern more about special effects.
SOTD is one of the most frequented threads and we should do a good job when we post pictures.
Another thread would be fine. Robert, do you have an idea for a title?

    Default You think LA's hot...

    Robert,

Outside my office it's 98 degrees F with 66% humidity.

The National Weather Service Heat Advisory for my town:

"DOWN RIGHT HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL
PERSIST ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA THROUGH AT LEAST FRIDAY. SOME
RELIEF COULD COME INTO THE AREA FOR THE WEEKEND...BUT TEMPERATURES
WILL REMAIN WELL ABOVE NORMAL. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB TO THE
UPPER 90S TO 100 PLUS DEGREES IN MANY LOCALES AND HEAT INDICES
WILL JUMP INTO THE 108 TO 115 DEGREE RANGE ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA.
OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL NOT PROVIDE MUCH RELIEF AS LOWS WILL STAY IN
THE MID TO UPPER 70S. WHILE SOME RELIEF MAY BE SEEN WITH SCATTERED
AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS...THE MAJORITY OF THE AREA WILL SEE THESE
    DANGEROUSLY HOT CONDITIONS."

Uuggghhhhhh! That is ugly Greg and slanted to go higher, it seems...It's the humidity that's the problem. I spent a good 5+ years of my life in Houston (during my graduate studies) and don't care to do it again.

At least CA is drier...This week has been fairly pleasant, I must say...~75º-80º and in the 50ºs at night...can't complain. You guys have it bad. I do not envy you .

    Hi Tom,
Thank you for the confidence and support. Allow me to think out loud for a minute here...I don't think we should have a section on photography techniques per se. That's a complex topic...very interesting, but involved...besides I think there are very good photographers here on SRP. Many of them are much better than me at this (Look at Max, Chris, Jose, Mikael, Bruce and your photos as examples that come to mind...I don't mean to offend anyone if I forgot to name more of you). I even think there is a short Wiki section on how to take good pictures of razors.

On the other hand, if we had a technique/photo manipulation section using PS (or other software) and special effects that people could use for their photographs, that might help make the pictures more interesting...We can call it (or other): "Photoshopping and special effect techniques for photographs". I am very open to this idea. It will depend on what the moderators think...It's fun to use PS to give photographs special effects.

But, at the end, a great photograph will need minimal amount of manipulation to deliver the message and convey an emotion...that's entirely dependent on the photographer.

Thanks again for the support . Let's see if we can get a moderator to chime in with suggestions.

    Robert,

I agree...If you ever see one for sale and its in good condition, grab it.

I got mine from Max and just love it.

BTW...I downloaded Photoshop Elements* last night and played around with it a bit today. I'm not ready to post any photos developed by it yet, but may be able to do so within the next couple of weeks.

The Charismata is a sort of Jekyll and Hyde, sometimes it lathers up easily, other times it takes much more work. Maybe it's me?

    Tom,
I think your idea could be incorporated into the SRP wiki, where there is already a section on photography. Perhaps there could be a subtopic added on using software, lighting, etc. to create more artistic photographs.
