Week of November 7 SOTD - Thursday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Razor: 7/8" Filarmonica Doble Temple #13, Hollow, Spike Point Brush: 24mm Thäter Silvertip Badger Überlather: Tabac Shave Creme + Tabac Shave Soap + Glycerin Astringent: Thayer's Witch hazel (Lavender, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-Free Moisturizer AS Splash: Tabac AS Result: How do you perfect a shave with a razor that never ceases to amaze me or deliver the goods? How about a shot of 'legal' steroids? And that is exactly what the Tabac brings to this negotiation table. Coupled with this super duper lather, this Filarmonica was (literally) floating on cloud nine...and so was I. MUCHO BELLISSIMO!!!!! I love this blade. Super smooth and irritation-free shave. And of course, this shave wouldn't be complete without a Tabac AS splash (+ moisturizer).

Have a Fabulous Thursday gentlemen .

Thanks Robert! I've actually been shaving with it for the past couple days trying to get it tamed. Not sure why this one was so hard for me to hone, but I'm really happy about last nights result. Wanted to get my coti finish before moving on to the escher so that I know for sure that I'm not making that jump up the stones without it being ready.

Thanks, I just had to take this one to the stones to reset the bevel after finding a ding in it. I decided to try my thuri as a finisher on it--gave it 60 laps with water. It was a very smooth edge, but I'm thinking that with a light slurry followed by some water only, it could be refined even more (or at least it sounds like fun to try)...

This Diamondine was honed by my own incompetent and inexperienced self, but it delivered a great shave anyway!! Proof once again that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while!
About the photo...
I asked my good wife to pick me up a new coffee cup. She returned with a matching pair of these "his and hers" monsters... I just hate matching stuff!! But, I do appreciate her efforts...

I made my first attempt at coticule honing today with the Griffin that I picked up a few weeks ago for $8. With some trepidation I developed great Tabac lather and had at it. The razor did not pull or tug at all, and it seemed sharp enough, but even with a few touch up passes I ended up with a mediocre shave. I suspect the razor needs more work on the hone, but at least I will feel less anxious about honing. After all, it's just some steel and a rock.
Just a note of thanks to all veteran's who have served us, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The B-17G in the picture is in honor of the 26,000 members of the 8th Air Force who gave their lives over the skies of Europe in 1943-44.
