Filarmonica DT 13 | Kanayama (after Oozuku Assagi) | Semogue LE | QCS Vostok + Bomb Saigon + Glycerin | Thayer's Rose | S.70 Eucalyptus | Bomb ASB - Saigon | Creed Bois de Santal
I have been trying to get to know my Oozukus recently, as if on queue Stefan (aka Mainaman) recently posted his nagura honing video. It was great to see how one of the honemeisters goes about this task, and I it pleased me to see that my technique was not far off. Nonetheless, I decided to try his method. This little Fili was finished on the Oozuku Assagi with a full nagura progression (botan, meijiro, koma, tomonagura), and had a wicked sharp yet very smooth edge.
The lather today was incredible. The weatherman says we're getting snow today, so I had to go with the Vostok, and it paired very well with the Saigon Bomb. What a contrast in warmth and cold! It gave me a great cushion and slickness for the newly sharpened Fili to slide right across my face leaving nothing but clear skin! A shave this good had to be followed with something classy, and Creed's now discontinued Bois de Santal fit the bill! The creamy sandalwood scent continues the hot/cold contrast of this shave and leaves me with thoughts of a warm tropical location!
Great shaves so far this week, gentlemen, thank you for letting me share my humble experience this morning!

Mising Post
My Monday SOTD post seems to be missing. I wonder what happened to it?

01-11-2011, 12:36 PM #9011.1.11 Shave!
Background music was Rachmaninov`s piano conserto No. 2.
Startet with 20 strokes on the linen and 30 on the black leather of my SRD Black Latigo strop.
The Straight was a Wade&Butcher made in the 1880`s according to Mr. Bob/Lz6. This razor was a gift, and it shaves absolutely fantastic. Perhaps the two Gentlemen in the background of the picture used the same razor
I used baby oil for my prep today, worked out quite nice.
Todays shaving cream was Fitjarsoap`s "Telemark". This cream has a stong smell of a fire out in the woods and Islay whisky. Very special, but I like it, brings you out in the wilderness instantly
I made the lather in a Hamada coloured Georgetown Pottery scuttle with a Simpsom Emperor 2 Super Badger brush. This brush is a killer both on soaps and creams, and even as my smallest brush it makes tons of lather!
The shave went just like I dreamed about when I first tried a Straight and just made blood, hehe. Not a nick, and true BBS after 4 passes, the last two against the grain.
Finished up with Alun and TOBS Sandalwood gel. Have a great day everybody.
Something is wrong with the upload of pictures, so I will post the picture later if possible!
