    Strop: Illinois 835
    Brush: FS Finest Badger
    Soap: Tabac
    Razor: Royal Invicta 6/8 (Sheffield)
    Astringent: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel
    Balm: Nivea Replenishing Post Shave
    A/S: Wahl Bay Rum
    Result: Awesome
This was my first razor, which has just undergone an overhaul. I gave it new scales and hand sanded the blade. On Friday night I honed it from bevel set up to a Coticule then Thuringian. I could not be happier with tonights shave. 3 passes BBS.
Quite probably the best edge I have ever achieved.

Beautiful SOTD featuring a very well done rescale, Grant!

Easter Sunday Dome and Face Shave
    Prep: Hot Shower
Dome Razor: 1912 Gem Junior Fat Handle
Face Razor: F.A. Clauberg Tonsorial Gem (maiden voyage)
    Brush: Omega Boar
    Soap: VDH Deluxe
AS: Alum Block, Witch Hazel, Nivea ASB
    Finish: Clubman

Ever shave with a new razor and wonder when was the last time this razor was used for shaving? F.A. Clauberg was in business from 1885-1926 so if this were the last razor made by the company it is still 85 years old. That of course leaves open lots of ground. Was it used 6 months ago or put away in the early 60's when grandpa passed away? Or maybe it hasn't been shaved with for longer, maybe it belonged to some guy who was killed in WWII. The razor was shipped home in his personal effects and his widow held onto it until she passed away recently. I'm sure each one of these old razors has a story. Wouldn't it be great if just briefly they could talk and tell us where they have been, who they belonged to, when they were last used, etc?
The older I get, the better I was

I have often thought the same thing GI. If these vintage razors could talk I'm sure they would have some fascinating stories to tell. That is why I love the vintage razors, using them keeps them alive and the spirit in them alive as well. There is nothing better than a link to the past and the lives of others who have preceded us.
