Ok I know I posted my "would have liked to shave with.." photo today. I hadn't planned on shaving until tomorrow am. However an interesting event happened this afternoon that got me in front of my razor and I thought I'd share it with you guys.

I had a knock on my door and standing there were 2 young men whose fathers are friends of mine. These guys are both fresh out of college. I don't usually see these guys and I don't think they've ever been to the house and certainly not on their own. Well one of them speaks up and says that their fathers had told them about how I've become a straight razor shaver and they wanted to know if I'd teach them to shave like men!

So I walk them down to my office and show them my razor collection and the hones but that isn't enough for them so I end up going through the whole routine. I gotta say they were pretty damn impressed with the closeness of the shave.

I got to tell them about how we should celebrate each day as a gift from God and savor the moments rather than hurrying through them trying to get to the "next thing." At 40 I've been around the block enough to know that whatever is down there probably isn't going to be anymore satisfying than what they have right now. So instead of rushing your shave and using as many blades as possible, try slowing down and going back in time instead of forward.

I showed them how to strop and how to make lather (which blew them away). They smelled the MdC and eyes lit up!! I ended up using TOBS Eaton College but I lathered up and gave myself a good 3 pass shave (which was a bit odd feeling with 2 other guys standing with me in my small bathroom!) However I think I have at least one new convert! If only my day job was this easy

Anyway. I used the Goldedge and got a couple nicks due to talking and shaving at the same time. The alum block fixed me right up and a bit of Bay Rum aftershave and cologne has me feeling like a new man tonight!

    No way I'm selling her!
I just bought her from Seraphim at B&B, but I sold a Joh.Engström Frameback in wooden scales, it might be the one your thinking of?

Thanks for sharing a nice story Tim, it's cool to hear about things like this. I think many is curious about straight shaving, but don't dare to take the plunge. A few friends and co workers have asked me to give them a shave, but they are afraid of trying themself.

My sincere condolences to you and your family on the passing of your aunt.

Welcome to the SOTD. It's great to have you here--even on such a somber occasion.

    Take care.

    Default July 16 SOTD

Finally got around to cleaning my carcass up after several days without a shave, and way to long without a haircut.

I finally got around to honing a few razors that were in decent condition, so today two of them shared a shave.

Prep: hot shower and lingering lather while stropping
Strop: 15 chromium oxide pasted pressed wool, 25 webbing and 35 latigo
    Brush: Rooney silvertip
    Soap: Fitjar Lighthouse bay rum
Razors: Ern 1166 Crown and Sword and a Geo Wostenholm & Son Conqueror
Post: WitchHazel and Layrite to keep the haircut tight

This was my first shave with a razor other than a 5/8ths... What a great shave, the heavy ERN was great just cut through growth like it wasn't there and the Conqueror was a great as well, but loud.

Enjoy the weekend gentlemen, I'm going to check out the SOTD's that I have missed.

    Cheers!
