Even though I hadn't shaved since Friday, my beard looks like the Amazon jungle...I didn't realize that it was that bad until my own mother reprimanded me for looking like a terrorist (even my wife sided with her...who am I to argue with the bosses?). But she doesn't understand the Heavenly virtues associated with waiting for such a shave. And Rene: You are right, Tom's DE ain't gonna hack it...This is a job for a serious weed whacker and the only one capable of wiping this messy wiry disaster clean is the Maxtom. The Maxtom made this job look like a walk in the park...easy as pie (or is it cake?). BBS, super smooth and irritation free in 3 passes
GGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Huge Maxterpiece!!! Damm you Robert....

Late shave today, but no disappointments! Some of you might have seen this old razor on restorations and I have given it a chance to perform this afternoon. Easiest hone job ever on an old Sheffie and left the 1000 in the water! Slightly audible and cut smooth and sure along the entire length of the blade. I now know what it would be like to have one brand new back in the day!
The quality of the restore shows in the ease of the hone!!!! Awesome!

    Prep: hot water
    Soap: AOS sandalwood
    Brush: Pure Badger AOS
Razor: NEW Edwin Jagger 89L DE with Derby blade
    Alum Block
    Balm: Shave Butter

Well, this is to new beginnings. It was my first shave with a DE, thanks to Obie for the blade. Did I mention that he gave me the personal tour of his shave den? Oh yes ...

BBS. That's all I can really say. This shaving experience opened my eyes anew. I didn't know I could get such a wonderful shave with a DE. My skin was relatively accustomed to the sharpness, but my angle is lacking, obviously, for the first shave. Really, I don't know what to say. It was a fantastic experience.

Did I mention I met Obie, today? He gave me a tour of his soap collection. Holy crap. Also, got to touch/feel/smell/lather some MdC today....can't wait until mine comes in.

P.S. DE aren't forgiving of moles like my straights are.

Prep: Oil cleansing method then Hot shower
Brush: DIY long handle with black badger knot (can't remember the size of the knot, I'll have to ask Gerrit since he gave it to me...many thanks)
Cream: Alraz-Bodega with a dollop of Escential lotions and oils shea butter brushless shave cream
Scuttle: SRD-Mother earth with ice water
Razor: 6/8 round point James Barber-Sheffield "The Favorite"
    Strop: 2" Ruprazor Paladin 20/40
Aftershave lotion: Honey bee gardens-Bay Rum

Pretty decent shave all in all. Honed the razor this afternoon but still needs a little work on the toe so later this week I'll sit back down with her and see if I can get that issue straightened out.

Results: Holy cow, today was a wonderful, before dinner shave. While SWMBO and the Youngest were off at the Grocery store, I stole away for a shower and shave. It was long, hot, steamy and wonderful!! The shave wasn't as close as I would have liked, but then again it's my own fault because my technique is still improving. The only good thing about not getting a particularly BBS shave is that I get to do it again real soon!! I really don't mind a good DFS as long as I get to shave again tomorrow!!
    Mike,
That sure sounds like a Zen-like shave. The ultimate. It's not the destination (e.g., BBS) that counts but the journey and how we get there. Well done with this fabulous razor. Great restore too btw

Nice "gifted" stuff Dylan. I wish I had friends like that. I love that CL razor

    Amund,
Be careful of the rust my friend. I didn't know GD were notoriously bad about rusting this quickly.

    Derek,
What a day this must have been. Obie is one of the gentlest and nicest gentlemen you will ever meet. He is a true mentor. Well done with the DE buddy. So, he got you hooked on MdC too, eh? Man...if soap was ever illegal, we'd all be arrested for soap dealing, LOOOOOOOL. Obie would be the ringmaster, LOOOOL.

    Hey Hornm,
It is such a nice surprise seeing you back on SOTD. Great gear and shave. I bet that Sheffield will take on a keen edge once you give her some TLC. Well done

    Thanks for the recommendations..

I'm just down the hill by the sea, in your little sister city, San Diego..I would love to join the meetup at your place..Just let me know when....
