While this isn't really my "SOTD" for today, I thought it would be fitting for me to post the modest travel kit I packed up for my two weeks of Army Reserve training upon which I started today...

These will be the blades, brushes and software I'll be relegated to for the next 14 days...

    Easyace,
Ouuuch, sorry for the blood letting in the finger. At least, you have 4 others to count on, LOOOL. But, a beautiful shave nonetheless. I loved it.

On the weather front, I do not (for a second) envy that "Hellish" temperature. But, hey, Qatar is no place for a flimsy California dude like me, LOOOOL...Although, I am trying to see how to establish contacts for some consulting/contract work in there in my field.

The fragrance of this particular line is Japanese Magnolia Blossom, Wild Orchids, Gardenia, Jasmine & Blackberries. I got it from him in a trade for a Ever Ready 1914 SE on another forum before it was on general sale. My only criticism is that it needs a significantly drier brush than any other cream or soap I have so if I forget that at the start I end up with a sloppy lather or have to use loads of product.
Thank you for the info on the PB...That sounds like an intriguing scent for sure (as long as the lather performs) and I may (sometime in the future) check it out. have fun with the honing of the toe part of this beauty my friend. Time spent on these precious steels is certainly going to be rewarding at the end.

Haaaaaaa. Thank you Rene. Believe it or not, I was worried and I did check, but judging from the smooth hacking and the lack of sound, she had no problems whatsoever. After checking under the loupe, she still seemed very smooth...The prep really softened the beard too (I would never expose any blade to the 3-4 day barbed wire...it is really rough).

Did ok with the straight today. Managed WTG on both cheeks and under the chin. Finished down the neck and near my goatee with my Merkur Long handled DE with Lord DE blade.
Welcome to the fold Coloradoveto. It's exciting having you here as well. Great job on the straight shave. You certainly did well with a professionally honed Boker. Looking forward to seeing more posts from you

    Hey Teiste,
How do you like Treet blades? They're very much touch and go with me (well...at least whenever I use the DE). Some days excellent and some days nothing to write home about.

Enjoy your holiday with your daughter my friend. Trust me, my beard is nothing special to look at. I certainly wouldn't waste taking any pictures of it (not to mention that doing so would probably make my wife believe that I have flipped, LOOOOL)

    Seriously guys,
My beard was absolutely no match for this Maxtom (even though she had good help from the prep). Now, if I had water shaved, that may have been a different story, LOOOOL. Then again, I would never do anything that stupid or torturous, LOOL

What a day Rene. Very nice indeed. Great busy day. You're an animal with the P90X Yoga. I almost did that today but settled with Core Syn. Nice razors too. But there go my 1:15 odds I had going with Paul about your AD, LOOOOL.

Congratulations on scoring this beautiful BB wedge. I haven't heard of too many BB wedges, but this one sure sounds like she will keep you happy for a good long time. What can I say? Some wedges are made in Heaven. This BB may be one of those. use her in good health.

    Hey Julian,
I never tire of the Faultless. You can use and feature her everyday and to me, it'll be like I am seeing it for the first time. The shave is not just about the razor, it's a "wholistic" experience which is more than just the sum of its parts. But, congrats on getting a new blade...hang tight, sometimes these things take a little while.

As far a resto advice, I am afraid that I am all thumbs. My go to guys are Max and Glen. Shoot them a PM and they will steer you in the right direction.

BTW: I see you're in SoCal...Wherebouts? I am in Los Angeles (Glendale). Next time we have a meetup at my place, you have an open invite to join if you wish.

Location: Wheat Ridge, CO at the base of the Rockies
Razor: 1920's Wilbert Army Special 11/16 Honed By LarryA, restored by me!!
After Shave: Mennen Skin Bracer (Vintage, at least 20 years old)
    Razor Burn Relief: Tend Skin
Brush: 22mm Silvertip in wood handle
    Styptic: Hemo Stop Stick
Prep: Super Hot shower, with Olive Oil preshave Oil (Small Yellow Bottle)
Soap: Old Spice Vintage Original with 5 drops of Glycerin (small clear bottle)
Lather Mug: 7" Monster Apple Ceramic Lather Mug
Cologne: Ogallala Bay Rum Original Scent

Results: Holy cow, today was a wonderful, before dinner shave. While SWMBO and the Youngest were off at the Grocery store, I stole away for a shower and shave. It was long, hot, steamy and wonderful!! The shave wasn't as close as I would have liked, but then again it's my own fault because my technique is still improving. The only good thing about not getting a particularly BBS shave is that I get to do it again real soon!! I really don't mind a good DFS as long as I get to shave again tomorrow!!

Enjoy folks, some amazing razors and pictures!!!

    Best always,

    Mike

p.s. Oh yeah, the neosporin is just in case!!!!

The crazy thing about today's shave is that all of the stuff was gifted to me.

Most recently, Charlie sent me a razor in a wicked cool fitted box. My ex was kind enough to replace toilet brush. HeirKB sent me the Lucido from out in Cali. And Karen provided the suds.

    • Pre: Proraso
    • Shaving cream: Palmolive
    • Strop: Illinois 827
    • Razor: Gold Dollar!
    • Scuttle: Schwarzweisskeramik XL
    • Brush: Semogue SOC

    By blix72 at 2011-07-10

Now the Gold Dollar is really something, it took an hour on the DMT 325 to even start honing, then it honed like any razor, and ended up quite shaveable actually. But, it literally rusts while shaving LOL, I could see rust start forming during a 20 minute shave. Quality steel for sure! But yeah, I got a decent shave from it.
