Thanked: 17No shave for me today.
Great shaves all round!
I'd gladly trade now that day 23 has started with a steady rain. I think I'm not going to need to worry about preping the beard for a shave as the moisture permeating everything will likely keep it soft.
Robert - I'm quite a bit north of California; right in the middle of BC would be home.

Oh my Konstantinos...That's a shame. It's too fast.
I am speechless too...But I will say it: Beautiful razor
Otto,
I don't know. I personally prefer the 12ºC temp over the 90º. I guess that what makes everyone different and unique in their own way
Welcome back from your travels (I presume work?). Hope all went well. We had missed you for sure
This 10/8" is the biggest Monster I have laid eyes on. beautiful though.
Béla,
I have found the blades for those, in case the edge goes dull, LOOOOOOOOOL
LOOOOOOL. You are always Baldy to me mate. Shiny head or not. Great shave
Congratulations Bill. That is cause for celebration, which you seem to have undertaken already with this great shave. Now, you go back home, get the doggies and live/enjoy bachelorhood until wife returns. have a safe trip back home buddy
Depends on how cold. I would trade with Otto's 53ºF, although today we look OK (80ºF for high?)
I would hate to be in your shoes Rene. How's the dog dealing with this?
Don't worry Paul. The long haul will soon be over and you have the weekend to look forward to.
Nice going GI with the "straight on a stick".
Hey Mikael,
That's quite a ritual you've got worked out. Mine is real simple. I find myself in a position of using the same technique (with very slight variations) with every straight razor (except the Kamisori, which are a different animal). I found that "shave ready" makes that difference very noticeable. If an edge is not quite there (regardless of grind), then I naturally try to compensate with pressure and that would lead to irritation. This is what was happening early on when my learning curve was steep. Now, I just make sure (the night before) that every straight I pick is shave ready for the AM. Having said that, I sometime enjoy varying the angle of the shave, especially with heavy growth. I normally don't go extreme angles with hollower blades as they already have a lot of flex and the latter will lead to a change in the angle of contact...the more extreme the angle with hollows, the closer to trouble we seem to get (imo). I found the ideal contact angle for a hollow blade to be 10-15º WTG/XTG and literally flat during ATG (no surprise there as we know). Wedges are a bit easier to push as far as angle is concerned. They are more forgiving, but you have to remember to keep the pressure off. Angle and pressure are intimately interrelated. You change one, the other tends to compensate.
I hope all this rambling made sense.
I never remember you being in a hurry Tom...But looks you had a great shave nonetheless
LOOOOOL. Sorry about the mishap buddy, but that's too funny. Glad to hear you are OK though.
Mikael,
That is such a beautiful blade. Love the sky blue scales
Bela,
Now, that Wosty is not in the same league as the plastic razor that your son uses, LOOOOL. Great blade for sure.
Congratulations Nic...That's a milestone to be proud about. Have fun with the project replacing the leather. What kind of leather are you going to use?
PS: I have never used a Rolls, but what I like about these razors (compared to traditional DEs) is that you actually strop the edge of the blade. Standard DEs use manufactured blades that are made to be ultra sharp. What's more, most manufacturers make the edge so sharp that it can become too fragile and thin, making it prone to chip and break...so, what do they do? they treat it with Chromium Oxide and the like to strengthen the steel right at the edge. Rolls is not as messy...Clean, stropped edge.
Kalerolf,
I hate it when that happens too. But makes the whole journey every AM worthwhile. Great blade and shave buddy
EA,
It's always a treat to see your posts and a great one it is today. Congrats on the stones and the touch up. Well done
Beautiful shave HOG, but I must say I was waiting for a funny piece/dialogue at the end that I have become so accustomed to
Prince George must be it then? You guys will be hosting the 2015 winter Olympics.Last edited by BladeRunner001; 07-22-2011 at 03:51 PM.

Week of July 17 SOTD - Friday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 25mm Custom Shavemac D01 Silvertip Badger Razor: 11/16" H. Eicker & Söhne PAX #190, Full Hollow Ground, Spike Point Strop: 30/65 (Torolf linen/Ambrose Horse Hide Clásico leather) Überlather: Castle Forbes "Cedarwood/Sandalwood" Shave Creme + Halsinger "Honig" Shave Soap + Glycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave Splash: Halston "Catalyst" AS Cologne: Halston "Catalyst" EdT Results: The Eicker & Söhne PAX is a wonderful razor...Amongst the best edges on any razor my face has had the pleasure of coming into contact with. I haven't seen too many PAXes around, but if you come across one, I would highly recommend pulling the trigger on it. You will not be disappointed. The Halsinger/Castle Forbes "Cedar/Sandalwood" was a very nice surprising combination. I really like the complementary scents and the resulting überlather. Very slick, moist and plenty of glide and cushion. Another BBS and smooth start to a busy Friday.
Have an EXTRAORDINARY Friday guys.

Robert

No rambling. Your question got me thinking and that´s how it came out for me when I started to think about it (pressure) :D and I´m with you re angels and irritation. It´s not a ritual I got, it´s how it most often pan out when I shave, well, not that time when I commented on it :D.
Pax Robert! :D Very nice razor and shave! Have a great weekend Robert and everyone else too!!
