Week of July 31 SOTD - Wednesday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 22mm Vulfix Super Badger Razor/Blade: Merkur 39C Slant + Bolzano Superinox Inossidabile blades Lather: Trumper's "Eucris" Shave Soap (Thanks Rene ) + Glycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue AS Results: I hadn't shaved with a DE for so long, I was afraid that I might have forgotten how to. So, today I took out (and dusted) my DE slant for this purpose. I loaded her up with Bolsano blades that I recently purchased and took her out for a spin. Also new today was a sample of the Eucris shave soap I received from Rene yesterday (thanks buddy)...this thing really smells great, not to mention that it produces a great lather. Not surprising given that it's Trumper's. . The prep/lather was wonderful as was the Bolsano, but I must confess that as much as I loved this shave, I really prefer my straight...I get a much smoother and enjoyable shaves from them than a DE.
Have a SPECTACULAR Wednesday gentlemen.

08-03-2011, 03:23 PM #194Wowwww...Quite a lot of SOTDs to catch up with this AM...What a great series to wake up to. Fabulous and addcitive shaves gentlemen.
Guilt is not a good thing, LOOOOL...no worries though. I feel just as guilty today using me DE.
LOOOOOOL
Woooah Michael...Congratulations on getting that beautiful JR tamed. That sounds like one heck of a honing regimen.
Nice satisfying shave Tom.
Beautiful pair Béla. That Kozuka is amazing. The handles are from sting ray skin?! What do you use the knife for or is it purely collection?
Konstantinos,
For a second I thought you were talking about Santa Claus, LOOOOL. Beautiful snatch buddy. Congratulations and use her in good health.
PS: Rune certainly is quickly becoming a honing machine and a source of great straights.
Pithor,
Welcome to SOTD and congratulations on the counts of honing and restoring. Very nicely done. That's a great looking brush (can't go wrong with a TGN badger)..And yet another mention of Rune being a supplier, LOL
Wowww Jamie,
Getting past this great shave, this is one beautiful razor. Love the design/scales.
Got it ...Thanks Nic. I sounded as if she may be someone else's, but glad she's in your collection.
Bill,
You haven't pulled the Knize Ten in a long time. Great shave buddy
Jack,
Great "little" razor, but she doesn't look all that small to me...maybe a 4/8"?
Sten,
Nice Hospital...Is this the Le Grelot Hospital or different? Sorry about the razor burn though. I am also curious as to why she wasn't all that.
The "job" thing always gets in the way, LOOOOL.
Slants are great...I will use my 39C today
Haaaaaaa....BIG +1, LOOOOL
Paul,
So are you saying you're now a DE convert, LOOOL? For me personally, as easy as it is using a DE, I find that straights are much much more enjoyable to use (not to mention that they give me a much closer shave)
Beautiful setup Grant
Beautiful shot José. Institut Karite ASB is truly a great product. Love the feel of it after a great shave.
That is just too funny José...Go figure, scales with parachutes. Well, it so happens that we are headed to Yosemite in early September. If you want to drop by, we can certainly test that theory (in a safe way of course), LOOOOOOL
Wowww Otto...It's so unusual seeing you use anything less than a 7/8", but she's a beauty.

Robert with the DE!!! Wow. I really want to give the Eucris a try next. I love the look of that black bowl and the scent sounds intriguing. Is it more potent than the Spanish Fig & Nutmeg? I broke that soap out today and I could hardly smell it. Darn Nose If anyone has been interested in trying the Spanish Fig & Nutmeg soap I'd be up for a trade. I think my damaged olfactory senses just don't pick this one up like they should. The cologne is great though.
I definitely get better shaves when I wait an extra day between them. This is my 3rd day straight with my straights and I had some irritation. Maybe I need to run the Bismarck over the coticule again. Nothing terrible, but not the smooth experience I'm used to with my red Bismarck.

Nice to see some of your straight guys like Robert giving a DE shave now and again, adds a nice bit of variety to the show, meaning maybe some of us DE guys may have to step up to the plate and give the old straight edge a go. great looking straights on show today, and WOW! there's a custom job over on the restorations that's blown my mind, here's the link for those who missed it.
