I love this razor and pretty much put all my other DEs to bed once I got this one. 2 passes was all I needed to get ready for the weekend.

There's nothing weird about a 32 year old guy with RA. It is a misconception that only senior citizens suffer from RA. It can hit anybody.

I hope that your medication can reduce the inflammation asap. Best wishes, my man.

Much appreciated! Got diagnosed with it last year and it was a total shock. But both my mom and her dad had it so my chances of it being passed down were better than average. Luckily it typically only flares bad when the weather changes. But I've been through streches where I've had club hands for a week at a time. SUCKS!!!!

I decided to rehone my RW. The shave i recieved from it before were good but had irritation. It took some work. Just when i thougt i had it. The next stone would show some light reflection on the edge. Chosera 1k then I ran it across my Naniwa 3,5,8 12k then my vintage thuri and CF water then oil. The finest shave from my RW ever. SMOOTH!!!! No irritation. Had some trouble getting a clear picture.Tried 4 times. Ofcourse 3 after the shave.

Why, thank you very much. Now I normally lump digital cameras in the same category as plastic razors, however using a 50's Medium Format camera with Fuji slide film for a SOTD would be a little time consuming, so necessity dictates...

The camera is just an old (maybe 5 years; not really sure) Panasonic DMC-FZ5. It's old but it does have a Leica lens.

It'd be cool to say I'm getting the light flare using a thin smear of Vaseline on a filter and a careful light set-up, but it's just a filter in GIMP, the image manipulation program I'm using at the moment. I used to use an old 'free' copy of Photoshop, but I've got a new laptop, and have been using GIMP at work, so thought I'd install it on the new laptop. It's 'open source' meaning free, and it's pretty adequate. It's often bundled with Linux distros.

GIMP is an acronym for Graphics Image Manipulation Program or something like that. The community who write these open source Linux based apps seem to like nerdy slightly funny acronyms.

To use the filter you just choose Filters | Light and Shadow | Lens Flare from the menu and click where you want the centre of the effect. It automatically places the little coloured halos on the photo. You don't seem to be able to dictate how bright the centre light spot is. Another nice filter is 'Lighting Effects'. 'Supernova' and 'Sparkle' are interesting too...

    .

Prep: Hot Shower / Very Hot Water Soak / Hot pre-shave oil rub
Razor: 8/8 1/2 Hollow Westonton & Sons + 9/16 Salamandar Salamandar Works Fosche - Solengen
Hones: With the Salamandar fresh off the hones I was prepared with my 8/8 Westonton at the ready! Not needed
Brush: 24mm Silvertip in Honey Locust
Uber: Tabac + Sir Irisch Moos (What a great lather maker this combo is, the only way to use Tabac)
AS: Alum Block Then Humphrey's Witch Hazel followed by Pinaud Clubman
    Edc: Cuba Gold
Result: I honed the Salamandar yesterday, and she gave a fine shave. DFS in 2 passes. I took this pic to demonstrate the overall HUGENESS of the Westonton. The 9/16 Salamandar is a normal sized razor, but in comparison to the Westonton it seems like a midget. In the background is my 7 day set of Spikes and a few razors waiting their turn on the hones after restoration. After @ 75 laps on the C12k the salamandar is smooth as silk, but still has a ways to go to match the Westonton. Look at the size of that razor!!!

It stands for "GNU Image Manipulation Program", and IMHO it's great since it can do most of what Photoshop can do at ZERO cost (and we prefer the term Geeky not Nerdy )

We now return you to your regularly scheduled SOTD

Ahem... I'm moving a bit closer to Max in the coming days, perhaps you should save postage and ship it to me, allowing me to test for quality and hand deliver.
