    Wednesday Afternoon

    Hot shower prep
Henckells Friodur 8/8 Spanish Point in Black Horn
    Semogue Owners Club Premium Boar
    episaacs 'roo
    DR Harris Marlborough Soap
    DR Harris Marlborough AS
    DR Harris Marlborough Cologne
    Trumper's Fragrance Free Balm

Ah, what a relaxing afternoon shave. Three days at home with a sick kid made me scruffy and grumpy, especially trying to juggle work. This afternoon, she's feeling better and I took some time for a long, hot shower and a lovely shave with the big Friodur. DR Harris Marlborough is an amazing soap and the post-shave lineup is exquisite. The SOC made me a wonderful merengue of lather and I am now clean, smooth and contented. Great way to start my evening! Have a great one, my SOTD Brothers!

Results were extra gratifying as I feel like crap today. I awoke with a headache and haven't gotten over it yet. No energy, but I scraped together this fantastic test shave. I took extra time on the prep in the hopes the hot shower and all the whisker rubbing would make me feel better, but it didn't. The only thing that did make me feel better was the fantastic edges on these 2 razors. Left side Bockla, right side the Blasberg 'Kerry-Gow' wedge. The wedge out performed the hollow for smoothness and comfort, but the Bockla got closer in 1 pass. Either way, they both were functionally exactly what they should be, great shavers. I swear I'm starting to like the wedges best, and it's a good thing since I have 12 of them now. I listened to my blues playlist during my shave as that just seemed appropriate to me today. I could not resist posting up in front of my center speaker while Jonny Lang played for me!

Happy Wednesday brothers, and welcome to our new members!! Thanks for joining us.

Had one of those mornings that I just couldn't get my hind parts in gear. We've all had those mornings you know, this argument going on inside your head:
"Dude, call in sick and let's go back to bed"
"Na, I've got a hundred things to do today"
"OK, just sit here another minute and then we'll get cleaned up and go."
"You know, now that you mention it I would rather be punched in the fellas than go to work right now."
"Man I told you, call in sick...sick of working that is, it'll be great, we'll sleep late, watch old movies, drink beer and bob in the pool all day."
"That does sound pretty good, you know...Holy cats! Look at the time! I gotta get outta here!"

Needless to say even though I was pressed for time the shave was not compromised. After all, I already knew the work day was going to suck, why toss a bad shave on your pile of miseries, right? As it turned out, I was long overdue for a safety razor shave anyway and this was a beauty.

Prep: 3 mile run, pipe and coffee, hot shower, baby oil gel
    Razor: Gem Featherweight SE
    Brush: Semogue 2000
    Soap: Cade L'Occitane en Provence
    AS: Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Finish: Agua Lavanda Puig (Bella and Carl's exchange last evening got me to thinking)

Can't say enough about the performance of this soap and Agua Lavanda is also the dog's bollocks. Just to prove I'm no stooge to the man I treated myself to a 3 pass Hollywood shave. Result Catfish Belly Smooth and I was still punched in by 0900

Well, gents, today was not a good one. I've been learning to hone, and most of the razors I've been using I honed myself, but I suffered a setback today. I got a couple of razors in the mail today and cleaned them up a bit. One required some significant honing. I tried one of them, but it wasn't a fun shave. I switched to a better razor, but not soon enough for comfort. Oh well, tommorow is another shave.

Could be. The bottle is almost empty, I'm not sure I'll buy it again, I did intend to have an 'all Proraso shave' one day, when I got the Proraso AS. I've moved away from that idea as I'm moving away from products containing parabens. I shook the bottle up to spread the cream over the side of the bottle, as I wanted the whiteness of the bottle to show against the black background. But then I couldn't 'balance the shot' very well, and then hit on the idea of the upside down bottle, to attract the eye. I think about these things WAY to much...Then again, it worked, didn't it?

    Thursday

Off to hospital this morning with my grandson Bailey to have his ‘port’ changed in the Oncology department. It’s starting to feel a lot like last April, when I literally feel like vomiting when I leave the ward for 15 minutes to move my car so I don’t get a parking ticket. The stress at seeing him in pain, and having to pin him to the bed for the procedures gets incredibly hard to bear, not as hard as it was at first, but still hard. Childhood cancer sucks big time. I didn’t get to read or listen to those books I said I would, and I wasn’t going to shave but decided to anyway. Going through the routine makes me feel ‘normal’. I really should be working out today too, but just can’t get motivated, even though it’s a beautiful Autumn 29 degrees sunny day. On the upside, while in the waiting room, Bailey started to sing along to 'I’m Sexy and I Know it' or whatever the song is, on the radio, complete with a bit of head movement and raising of eyebrows. It's actually quite incredible to see that he can still enjoy himself. I should learn from that. But I fear I'm too stupid, and old, and set in my ways and removed from God...

The shave itself (which, after all, is what this thread is about) was nice. Listening to each and every hair cut by the full hollow ever sharp Burrell was a delight. You can almost FEEL the hairs being cut, too.

The ‘Bald Frog’ ‘Wake Up Rosemary’ soap mixed with Faulding ‘Shave’ cream and glycerine in an Überlather made a really nice mix. I’m not really a shave soap guy, preferring creams, but this soap is nice. I think I’ll request an ingredients list from ‘Mastershake’ and, if I ‘approve’ of the ingredients, order the cool sounding 'Arabian Hooka’…

The warm weather called for Bay Rum; I can still smell it on me at 16:30.

    Razor: Burrell Top Flight
Pre Shave: None, decided I don’t really need it
Überlather: Bald Frog ‘Wake Up Rosemary’/Faulding ‘Shave’/Glycerine
    After Shave: Dominica Bay Rum

    Thursday

Razor: Unbranded, ugly German silver steel.
    Cream: RS Menthol
    Brush: NF2213
    Post: Alum, Blue Stratos AS

The 1st in a series of tests on the purple and green hones from the tri hone set from ebay.

I chose this razor for the tests as although its pitted and ugly it takes a sweet shaving edge, The progression was my usual which works very well for me. I use a King combo 1000/6000 then move to a finisher. The bevel is set on the 1000 and then I do 20 laps on slurry on the 6000, dilute and repeat then do 40 on just water. That brings the razor into a nice state to take to a finishing stone, which typically would be a Naniwa 12K superstone.

However this time the finisher was the greenish slate from the tri-hone set aka the Welsh Thuringian. I started with a slurry which did 40 laps, diluted and did 40 more, then I rinsed off the stone and did somewhere between 80 and 100 strokes to finish.

Result: An edge that would be hard to beat and which yielded a very smooth shave. It is certainly as good as I get from a Naniwa 12k and possibly a little better. The stone itself seemed quite hard when raising a slurry and the feedback while honing was good.
    Regards
    Nic

    L'Occitane Lavender Soap
    Razor Maxotte 6/8 High Grade
    Le Tuft Le Une Grande
    Vulfix Persian Musk
    Alum & Witch Hazel
    L'Occitane Bavx Balm
    Botanics Moisturiser SPF 15
L'Occitane Cedre L'Atlas Eau De Parfum.

    Jamie.

A lovely shave from the Maxotte 6/8, two pass shave WTG & XTG very smooth a super fine full hollow ground blade. I would describe this razor as a very refined edge indeed.
