Just a quick 1-pass shave this morning. About M3 close, not great, but it'll get me through the day. Gotta shave again tonight to get extra-BBS for the anniversary festivities.

Since I had shaved last night for the anniversary festivities, I didn't have a full day's growth - whether this left an easier or harder task for the razor this morning seems to be a topic for debate. But the razor did the job admirably, my normal 2-pass shave left me BBS, and after the shave the razor was still capable of popping hairs without needing stropping, making it one of only three in my stable that will do that with a .5 micron finish (though several more will do it with a 1 micron finish).

    I'm a happy camper.

Rushed and did not enjoy the shave. I thought the Dovo might need a touch up till I cut my chin.. Sh#t.

    Default First Str8 Shave

Today was my first proper straight shave (previously played around with inferior kit and paid the price!)

Tower soligen 5/8 (purchased shave ready from altima55)
Dovo two-sided strop (Tony Miller strop en route - I got this one with an e-bay lot)
    Saville Row 3122 silvertip
    Institute Karite shea butter soap
    Alum
    Musgo Real A/S
    QED ASC

I did N-S and S-N passes and a bit of clean up - not perfect, but not too bad (I did do some clean up with an injector).

Not a single nick! (Which I attribute to beginner's luck more than skill on my part!).

I was also surprized that it didn't take much longer than my usual shave.

I do think the 5/8 hollow might be light for my heavy whiskers, but I'll stick with this size before moving on to bigger razors as I think it will help me establish my technique.

Thanks for all the helpful tips!

It's not the size of the razor as much as the grind that's critical for heavy beards. I've got 6/8 extra hollow razors that are too light for my beard, and 4/8 half hollows that do just fine. The extra weight helps as well, but not as much as the stiffness.
