Thanks Carl! I love this razor too. It was my first total restore razor. Came to me just the blade. But it also came with a other Stiz "union" totally rusted over and growing pock holes like no tomorrow. Those scales came from the union. So the spartak was Restored to all original soviet conditioning

    Thursday

The car’s broken down (wheel bearings) so, as there’s no public transport in the tiny town I live in, I’ve been forced to take two days’ recreation leave. I told my wife last night I was going to sleep in until two o’clock in the afternoon. When I was young and in the army, I gained a degree of fame from sleeping ridiculous amounts of time; up to 16 hours. I credit my youthful looks to it. Today I only managed one o’clock, after which I was a little ashamed, so took the opportunity on this lovely sunny autumn day to cut the lawns. The post-lawn-care shave with the Burrell Top Flight was excellent.

The Bald Frog ‘Wake Up Rosemary’ soap sample Mastershake sent me mixed with Body Shop Macca Root and glycerine in an Überlather was superb. I’ll have to commit to getting some of Mastershake’s soap; I keep meaning to…

    Excellent pics and comments guys!

    Razor: Burrell Top Flight
    Pre-Shave: Sukin Facial Moisturiser
Überlather: Bald Frog ‘Wake Up Rosemary’/Body Shop Macca Root/Glycerine
    After Shave: Dominica Bay Rum

I used to love range shoots when I was in the army. I preferred 'normal' range shoots rather than Surface to Air Missile practices, esp when I was promoted to Sergeant, as I had more control as a Safety Officer. We normally shot SLRs, 9mm Browning, 84mm Carl Gustaf, 66mm SRAAW, M60, a grenade launcher we called a 'Wombat Gun' (I can't remember its real name). Generally, the days started with PT at 6ish, followed by showers and breakfast, then on to the Unimogs, off to this range and that range, firing this and that weapon, a lot of waiting, hot box lunches, a lot of smoking. Then home to the tent lines, shower, hanging around, making cups of tea, talking, more smoking, maybe a run or some weights for fun, tea, then quite an amount of beer when the 'bar' opened (a gunner assigned to the eskys holding the beer; a dollar a can), more smoking, etc. I miss it, actually.

    National Day Shave:

    Shave prep: Face wash
    Brush: Haryali badger
    Soap: Martin de Candre DOmino
    Scuttle: Robert Becker ekstra large
    Razor: John Barber, 5/8 wedge
    Strop: nun2sharp's hanging leather strop
After Shave Splash: Vetiver Rose home made splash
Notes: Great 2-pass shave today, I picked a razor that just might be as old as our constitution (1814) and MdC for utter luxury.

Our natoinal day is celebrated with parades and ice cream, it is very much a people's day, and above all a children's day. I am including a couple pictures, one is our parade street filled w people celebrating, and one a closeup to show what you are in fact seeing in the large picture. I am afraid the weather today is rainy, but hot dogs and ice cream will go down in spades anyhow I am sure.
