    Monday

Nice, smooth shave with a nice, sharp razor this morning. Not that my other razors aren’t sharp but some are more so than others. The cream was Top Secret. A very nice cream but one I’m now out of favour with due to my current distaste of Sodium Laurel Sulphates and such. I can’t wait for my soap and other goodies from Madame Scodioli.

Conflict in the workplace was used to fuel my evening workout. That and three Glucodin tablets resulted in personal best reps, a great pump in my biceps and triceps and me annoying my family members by constantly asking them if they had noticed how big my arms are getting. For some reason they decided to hide their envy and astonishment; I’m not sure why…

To continue our themed SOTD I’ve included a better photo of my favourite camera; a 1953 Rolleicord III with a Schneider- Kreuznach Xenar lens and a Compur shutter (‘B’ to 1/500). In the 50’s having your photo taken with a Rolleicord or Rolleiflex meant you’d made it as a star; a lot of the old photos of movie stars were taken with these cameras. They have really excellent glass; some of the older models were uncoated. This camera cost be 90 buckeroonies several years ago and is in perfect working order. However, some of the attachments were expensive; the lens hood itself was 100 bucks. I’d never part with this camera; it was my first Medium Format camera and is still the best. I wouldn’t mind a Hasselblad or a Roleiflex SL66, they are really cool; but prone to breakage I hear. I love shooting Ilford HP5 ISO 400 film and also Velvia ISO 50 Slide Film. I’d be so bold as to say a lot of people out there who happily take 100 shots with their digital cameras (where 1 or 2 are ‘keepers’) have no idea of the relationship between shutter speed and aperture values and have no idea what ISO even means. If that works for them, cool, but for me; I like to use my mind just a teeny weeny bit. I also like to really SEE things. Only when you really see things, and when I say things I actually mean light, can you take reasonable pictures. Not that mine are any good, but they have improved. Reading Ansel Adams’ The Camera helped a lot. Here’s a link to my Flickr page.

    SotD - Hobby
Did only one shave thro'out the week coz I miss my Str8s.Anyway while having the shave, saw a pair of Oriental-Pied Hornbills knocking at the window, the girl trying to see how pretty she is and the male is trying to see whether he needed a shave.Bird Watching is my hobby, especially the Hornbills.I am lucky to have them coming to the resort every morning.Reached home last nite and will do the Str8 tomorrow.Name: DSC03617.jpg

I love the word fjord. It's such a nice word and they're such nice looking places...

I love fountain pens too, I use only a fountain pen or a pencil, nothing else. I only have two, though, a new Parker Sonnet and a Swan with a nice flexible nib, from the 30's I think. It's too flexible for work (signatures and stuff), plus it suffers from a bit of nib creep, but it's nice to try some calligraphy with...

I've just gotta say; you guys have COOL hobbies; art prints, guns, knives, guitars! And the funny thing is, if I had to guess, I'd have never linked you each to your hobby. Don't ask me what I would have guessed your hobby to be; that's a whole other thread; but I'd not have guessed those :-)

[EDIT], actually, I think I would have guessed gssixguns'...

I never thought of reading as a hobby. At this time, I have a new hobby which I have enjoyed since a young boy. Dad taught me reading never gets old.

I did not think anyone used slide film anymore. Three of the photos I posted were taken with Ektachrome 35MM Slide film, ISO60. The prints are expensive and I don't know if they make the film or can print the slides anymore. The colors the Ektachrome produces are incredible. The sunrise photo over NYC is a great example, most think the colors are airbrushed.

Carl, here are some fountain pens from my collection. I did a simple web page, but lately I haven't done pictures...

Unfortunately, the kids and a lot of work in addition to reading just a hobby...
