Here are two of my out-of-the-ordinary Safety Razors. And yes, I've shaved with both of them.
The Pomcomatic uses a standard DE Razor Blade and with the help of the battery will vibrate as you shave with it. I felt I didn't gain anything in my shave with this vibration, but it's a cool oddity.
The Gillette Techmatic Razor has a ribbon blade. Meaning the replaceable Cartridge head has a roll of blade that looks like a ribbon. To shave with it you rotate a handle and a new section of ribbon blade comes around so you can shave with a new blade every time. The old section of blade is rolled up inside. I have two new Carterages for mine as I get a great shave from it when it comes around in my shave rotation.
As Tim pointed out in the link the Techmatic was used on a shuttle mission. It's just Sharpening, right?

I got this idea from Geezer a long time ago. A Stahly head on a regular, heavy handle shaves great.
The side-to-side suspension makes for a comfortable shave, IMO.

Thanked: 14The Techmatic was one I had recalled none too fondly from back in the day .. but during the 50th Anniversary of that moon landing I became reacquainted. The NOS blades I found actually gave a pretty solid shave ..

I read that the head on this actually has a spring action. It sounds very interesting. I will look around and see if I can find one of these. Hey, If Geezer said it was good, I surely won't argue with that. Geezer knew a lot when it came to safety razors. RIP Geezer.
Thanks for pointing this out, Tom.It's just Sharpening, right?

One thing fun to me is the various ideas that came along as a way to beat a straight for shaving.
So many fun ideas that didn't work or at least improve things.
A few at least convinced the average public that they were better.
I have straights that are 150 years or 3 years old and they are basically the same thing.

I have a various collection of safety razors right now my favourites are the injector type razors and the Gem types. Here's one that i think is unique (correct me if i'm wrong) a Barbasol DE. I like the way they made it just 2 pieces instead of 3.( I find the three piece ones awkward to load.

Gillette #58, originally produced for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. Phenomenal shaver.
