I have never tried an electric that even gave me a bad shave. Maybe if you've got really fine hair...

I used to use them a long time ago and I always walked away with BBS skin. Unfortunately, by the time I got to school I had stubble already.

I tried one once. My face was so raw from rubbing the thing on my face in the end I didn't want anything to do with one again. Still didn't come away very smooth.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I used to have a really cheap electric shaver, it cost about 10 pounds and plugged into the cigarette lighter in the car.
i tried to use it one day as i drove because i had overslept and was late for work, talk about tears, it just gabbed my bristles and ripped them out by the roots.
That was my only electric experience, I used to have a quick Gillette cartridge shave when i got out of shower, it took about 3 minutes and I was as rough as a badgers bum but until i found this forum i obviously didn't know how to shave
The army did teach me but at that time i didn't need to shave so i was always bbs even if i only pretended to do it.- - Steve

Ok,let's get back to the shavettes, I think he's missing the point, with a shavette you don't have to sharpen it, you just throw it away, but if you actually strope a new blade, you actually get a better shave.
Also, shaving with a straight, is a zen experience, you have to be in that moment or else, and the actual shave you get is far superior to just about anything else, newer isn't always better. A DE is faster if you're on a clock, but you have to prepare yourself for a shave with a straight, it's a ritual, wash, lather, rub in,then shave. Try this, shave with your shavette and see how long it lasts, then use a good straight and take your time, I believe that you will see the difference, if you have any skill with a straight of any sort,.
I think that you'll see that the straight gives a longer lasting shave. JMHO.

I'm glad to see that, although a small minority, there are other moderate users.
I never understood the dogma related to SR community.
With Queen lyrics ... It's a kind of magic.
But, I'd like to add a question mark in the end.
This is my experience.
Every shaving system can give a smooth cut. Just Physics.
It's only the user who can (or not) control properly the edge.
Different systems, different skills.
It's a learning curve.
For me, no matter what system, I've a long lasting shave.
The difference is just how good I'm to control, so the time I need.
But I'm still learning. It's only few decades I'm in this hobby.Last edited by ischiapp; 12-20-2022 at 06:41 PM.

I have no problem with what anyone chooses to shave with or how.
Straights are an old school way of shaving. We love the maintenance and skill set it takes to use these implements. You my friend have spewed blasphemy upon this forum, in that respect.
It shows your laziness and character to the best, and oldest way of shaving. Its what this forum was created for in the first place.
To teach those that want to learn how to use straights, maintain them, hone them, restore them, ect. Its not a "disposable"
Maintenance.... Your just lazy.
Sorry, I'm never like this, and have never voiced myself, but your nothing but a chigger under my skin, and a virus to this community. IMHO
Hope that Tc doesn't come along.... If you really want it, he'll give it to ya.... Mr. disposable, maintenance free, afraid he might cut himself, guy.
And I apologize to
the rest of the forum for doing so.Mike

Thanked: 0Both SR, and Shavette give similar results. It is easier to shave with a SR, than a Shavette, however, being something that requires constant maintenance, and cuts with the slightest slip is not what I enjoy. Shavette does the same, and if not careful does leave cuts. DE is an absolute delight, even it slices when it slips. Nothing is safe, every option has its cons. Back to the unwarranted attacks on my post.
My initial post was a direct answer to the OP's question. And all I stated was a Shavette model, and it's blade. You and 3 others decided to begin with our endless rants.
I never asked, nor responded in an open ended manner to warrant for any of your uninvited opinions. Others have responded as well, you decided to target me.
