I use the supers too. The SS has a rounded edge. It is easier in my opinion. I think you will need to be a little more careful with the DX

If you want a straight razor experience use the Feather DX or Kai Captain folding razors. Couple them with a feather pro or Kai mild and you will get close to conventional straight razor shave. Nothing like a really well honed and stropped 6/8 razor though.

If you want to try shavettes, pick up a Kai Captain for $60 less then a Feather DX. The Kai uses the same blades and will give you a very good shave. If you really like using the Shavettes, I would then get a Feather DX. It is the Rolls Royce of shavettes. I go to my Kai every so often because I find that it helps me with my pressure. A Feather blade brings on real respect or fear of God. After using the Kai, I go back to my straights and find I get a much better shave because I am more aware of the pressure.

The part I like is I don't have to worry about dinging the edge or folding it with stropping etc. a sharp edge is a quick blade change away. Note the first couple shaves on a new blade is definitely more harsh than a traditional straight. Go slow. Go easy. An the reward is amazing!
I did buy a Feather AC SS a couple of months ago and only dabbled with it. I decided to use it exclusively for the month of November and finally got a pretty decent shave on day five. You are correct about the light touch. I had a couple of bloodlettings in the beginning, but got a two pass DFS today. Thanks for the encouragement.

A newbie here, considering the purchase of a straight for a couple of weeks. This site is great. So much good information. At this point for me I'm experiencing paralysis by analysis. I was ready to pull the trigger on a complete SR system, and then saw these threads on the Feather. After further analysis and reviews, the feather system might be just the ticket for someone like me. I'm turning 40 with 2 very young boys. Not sure if the time required to strop, hone etc. is right for me. Plus so much technical information to learn with a straight.
A feather ss sounds like it can get the job done and not break the bank. Selling for under $65.00 on a well known website. This just might be the way to go before taking the plunge into the world of straight razor shaving.

I chose the Feather for similar reasons and am learning a lot. I will eventually transition to traditional straights with some necessary skills. Have fun!

I have only used the Professional. It took a couple of shaves to get used to them but I like them.

My Feather DX is my all time favorite of all my straight edge razors. More for everyday. When I have time to spend with a traditional shave, then I get out the strip and go to work with my Hart Steel.
