I went ahead and bought a feather SS yesterday (should be here tomorrow) to give a shot. For travel, it would be easier not to have to carry a strop/CrOX and not have to worry about finding a place to hang the strop. I'll likely stick with straights for home use, but a feather might be a nice step up from the DE I usually carry when I travel.

@earcutter... looked at my amazon account and it says "out for delivery". So, this evening will be my first feather experience (with the pro blades). And just to be clear, people tend to use LESS of an angle with shavettes?

My experience with my Feather SS with Pro-Guard blades has been that I don't think about a difference in angle. The head of the SS folder sets the blade up nicely for shaving, and I get nick and scrape free very good shaves with it. I find it quite easy to get great shaves with it although I prefer using conventional straight razors.

    Woot!!!

I can't answer your question as to if people use less of an angle or not - and I don't have a Feather (yet). But as a general rule of thumb, one uses less angle and works thier way up with straights. Stands to reason the theory would stand for the Feather.

More often than not, I hear people say what ace said " don't think about it."

Good luck! Excited for you .

Feather is really cool... i use it in rotation with feather as-d2 (i paid too much i cant skip it!) one day ac dx other as d2 and goes on... But an advise you should never forget! Pleae use towels to remove soap residue and to dry the razor, i use mu forearm actually, it is also ok but do not forget the blade while using your forearm... if you forget it and use your forearm pleae do not make it speedy... i just simply forget it last time... And a nice picasso picture on my forehand smiling me at the moment!

@boarder277 - I just tried the Feather SS for the first time yesterday and got about as good of a shave as with my straights. Having seen that, I'm not sure how much better the DX could be given the over double pricing. Nicer scales and I like the shape of the clasp better, but damn is that thing expensive!

i hear ya, i was thinking the same thing, that DX is damn expensive! can anybody who's tried both the SS and the DX weigh in on the difference? and whether its worthwhile to when bother buying the DX?

The difference I see in them is weight feels balanced better in DX. As far as price, that's the buyers choice IMO. I like the SS personally. Doesn't look as good an feel in the hand is not as nice as DX but for the money the SS is my choice.
