On the synthetic brush note, could you share your favourite synthetic brushes, and in particular, could you recommend any that have solid backbone AND what you would consider good "scritch".

Know you personally don't like "scritch" but figured you'd know....

    Thanks Obie! :-)
    Phrank, my friend,

I have told this story many times.

Yes, the Bic was my Vietnam razor, and it came in the standard sundry box along with toilet paper, canned shave cream and other personal supplies. In the jungle, the steel helmet was my sink, the Bic my razor and the canned shave cream goo, well . . .

(I have the Bic with a bow tied around it mounted on the shave den wall as a reminder of my past sins.)

I didn't wear aftershaves or colognes, because foreign fragrances, anything not part of the jungle, caries a distance, and I didn't need to invite an AK 47 to my party. I promised myself that if I ever got out of that armpit alive and back to The World, I would never touch such razors again. And I have not, although by then cartridge razors were more readily available than the great razors of bygone years.

Later, after 30 years behind the radio microphone, I once again found the safety razor of my youth, and later the straight razor.

I had wanted to shave with the straight razor since my early twenties. Not because it was the cool thing to do; rather, I found something mystical, and romantic, about it, and still do. But then life got in the way and I had to wait for decades before fully embracing the straight razor. Although I still enjoy the safety razor, the straight razor shaving ritual gives me immeasurable joy.
Sometimes I even add an extra pass to my three-pass routine just to make the shave last a little longer.

Phrank, I don't want to hijack this thread; I will do something on my small lineup of synthetic brushes in the brush section. Stay tuned.

I do use both hands, but only for one special pass along the neck. The rest is all one handed.

If you can shave with a razor in each hand...go for it.!
I'll keep my eye on the 11:00 news.

I shaved with my second SR yesterday, the Romo re-branded Filmonica I bought from a forum member on Ebay. THE THING IS GORGEOUS. I have found myself just holding it and looking at it like I would a new or favorite firearm. The shave was nice.

Today I bought two more SR's from Ebay, both X-Soviet Union makes, and I have a line on what is left of a 7 day ivory-handled set. Who parts out a set????? Anyway, I hope to save at least part of it and either make or get someone to make me a box for those. I shave every three days and I only SR shave. I mostly use one hand but my weak hand makes two passes.

I have to shave everyday, I don’t have the profile name Papabear for nothing lol. No seriously I have to shave everyday cause of my job and also due to to my facial hair grows very fast, I also have lots of greys so if I skip a day’s shave I really look dirty. I don’t straight shave everyday just about twice a week and the rest is shavette, DE and SE.

Papabear....I feel for you in the "too much hair department" but at least you get plenty of practice shaving.

I usually shave at night but yesterday I shaved in the morning and was able to enjoy the BBS all day long. Today I can feel hair but there is not yet "a shadow."
