Ouch - hope the cut isnt too deep. Did you disinfect it? Glue the skin back together with those strips?

Been there, cut that...
Once tried closing razor with one hand instead of both, a sort of wrist flick move at half attention. Very careless. Very stupid. Sliced directly across right middle finger, second knuckle. Grand blood flow and not a little pain. Tested to make sure tendon wasn't severed, applied significant pressure, then decided to crazy glue slice. Never did go to emergency room, but probably will have sensitive scar tissue for years. Fortunately did not cut tendon, which requires surgery.
Have to admit, I haven't shaved with straight twice since. My collection sits oiled and unused. Decided they are not worth all the inconvenience, blood and pain--just do the quick, expensive Gillette Turbo thing instead. Do not find cutting and nicking my face and other body parts either restful or refreshing. My life is too short for the kind of self abuse I was inflicting.
I am, however, grateful to this site for introducing me to vastly improved shaving technique, as well as the beauty of brushes and lathering agents, conditioners and colognes. And my razors are handsome to look at.Last edited by Stracks One; 03-01-2009 at 11:37 AM. Reason: typos

I have wondered for a long time if the DOTT [dropping on the thumb test] works. I never had the guts to try it. You have a sharp blade my friend. Remember your thumb will heal but your duck won't. Yea for the duck.

Sounds like a nasty experience. glad to hear you're ok. I am thinking of a new maxim " Wipe twice before you cut"
You might consider having your thumb checked for a need to be stitched. A blade can cut deep.

Stracks, you're breaking my heart. I know it isn't easy but when I think of what you are missing ...... Are your razors definitely shave ready ? If you give it another go using Lynn's advice on starting out I bet you might find it works for you. Read my sig to avoid cuts and nicks.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have to admit, I was disappointed to read that you gave it up. I'm glad you didn't sell everything off yet, that's good, there's still hope. After I bandaged my thumb up, I finished the shave. I hope you get "back on the horse" as they say....Rich

BTW Zib, you did clean the blood off the Duck fairly quick I hope. The red stuff tarnishes steel pretty bad.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
