Thanked: 335The one pass perfect shave?
You're kidding us, right? That would only be possible were we ALL to have a Chronik. Not having the ne plus of ultras, I'm forced to do the 2 pass routine, maybe with a 3rd if I'm feeling real brave and I feel I've had a nose and ears long enough and cheek flaps are fun to have blowing in the breezes.

One pass shaving is much, much preferable to me for comfort than any other kind. It is usually once every week or two weeks that I will shave against the grain in an effort to get a closer yet comfortable shave, but have never yet successfully totally combined the two
I can feel stubble when I rub my hand against the grain, and sometimes it makes me wonder if I could not get a closer and more comfortable shave with a different tool.Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

I normally do the same starting with the ATG pass on my neck, if it passes that, it is Gooooooooooood
I am learning quite a bit from the single WTG pass now though.. I am by no means saying I will stick with this, but it was an eye opener as to just how sharp these edges really are when done right, and more importantly, how smooth they can be....
Of course the irritation level is cut into 1/2 to 1/3 by default no matter what... IF you don't use more pressure to compensate for less passes, because that defeats the purpose...

Great question Glen, I usually do just one pass all the time & it does a good job. It's hardly ever I'll do a second pass. Corse all my razors have ben honed by you, witch makes it very easy for me to keep them razor sharp. A good professionally honed edge means everything.

Glen, once again, we are on the same pace here. I read several comments by another user who shall remain anonymous about one pass being sufficient for a good shave. However, there was no mention of what pass it was. Intrigued by his claim, recently, I took it upon myself to try his method and used a different single pass in consecutive shaves. It did not take me long to realize that this was a futile exercise if I did not use the same razor for all my trials. I find that a single semi XTG (there is a bit of ATG involved) yields the desired results. I am avoiding the WTG pass, at least for now. I can confirm that the choice of razor is important important. I cannot do this with every razor but if I have my choice of razor, I can get BBS (as defined by user) with this one pass. Before you ask, I used a Filarmonica and Tabac in the succesful trial (yesterday). I started doing this recently so I have not tried The Bomb, or other commercial soaps yet. I am inclined to think that the choice of soap would also play an important role in this. DISCLAIMER: I go back and redo missed spots and then edge my goatee. Just like Jimmy said, this can be done but I feel that it takes some of the shaving experience away...;-). It is however, as Glen suggested, a very good way to avoid irritation, especially if your skin is sensitive.

Thanked: 155Once over is all I ever use and all I ever need. It is not, however, completely WTG and it probably does not really qualify as just a single pass.
I hit most areas with multiple strokes and I vary the direction through out each stroke so that the blade slices through the hair instead of chopping.
When done with proper attention to detail and a sharp razor, I find that a second pass produces no improvement in the closeness of the shave.

Ah, but how many times do you go over the same spot during a one pass shave?
I can get a perfectly good work-day shave with 1.5 passes (I have to go N-S, S-N under my jaw. On my face I do one stroke more or less with the grain, then one more or less across the grain.

Thanked: 156Then yes I can. I used to just do ATG passes when I first started and for a long time after that. Don't have much cheek hair. Then I started wet shaving with a badger brush and...I like the feel of the lather! What can I say? WTG & ATG. I'm sure I can go back to a single ATG pass again.
