I am a all-or-nothing guy. If I fail to allocate sufficient time to shave, I don't do it. Once I am over the beard prep and stropping and lathering etc; the second and third passes are quick and do not take that much extra time.

I could now post some colorful metaphor about a premature termination of one's favorite activity but I am a well behaved gentleman so I won't.

I just checked again today, and the second and third pass still does nothing for me but increase the level of irritation.

Not getting a true BBS shave increases my level of irritation!

I did go for a single pass shave the other day, just to give my skin a day of rest.

Hit it with the full 3 again today though....

Glen, I remember your posting that you were strictly a 6/8 man. The beard is probably why the 7/8 and larger don't suit you. Getting around is more easily done with a 6/8 or even a 4 or 5 for a beard or a mustache. I know a guy who is friends with Tim Zowada and he had a blade specially built for shaving around a beard. It is shorter from heel to point than standard and probably a 5 or 6/8. I can't recall.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Not necessarily so much not suited, more kinda boring, as it makes the shave basically Zip zip done hehehe

I have to do a minimum of two passes, as my beard is extremely wiry and comes out almost parallel to the skin. One wtg seems to just cut the whisker off at an angle even with much stretching. Plus everything below the chin just seems to swirl around at bad angles!

Even with a SE or DE or cart I have to do two passes minimum. Luckily I almost never get irritation.

You sound like me. I have to do at least two passes to get anything even close to smooth. Otherwise my face feels like sandpaper.

    Nick,

Me too -- but that's part of the challenge. How
close can you get a single pass with careful
technique and a sharp blade? Hopefully higher
    grits of sandpaper

For the sake of science I did a one pass (probably more like 1 1/2 pass) shave.

    The tools
Old Boker King Cutter honed with the "one Coticule method"
Proraso cream, badger brush, Illinois leather strop

    The shave
    40linen/70leather strop passes

I did my usual wtg pass with a little more pressure than usual as I wouldn't get any irritation, i also did about 1/2 pass with just water. The actual shave took 6-8 mins.

    The results
I can feel stubble everywhere, but only atg. It was better than I thought it would be, but also not what I like. I would probably do this again if I was in a hurry. Probably not gf approved
