Thread: One Pass Challenge !!!!

If I did one pass (and I will try), the remaining stubble would be unsatisfactory to me. If I had a goatee, then maybe. The wire-like growth on my chin needs more than one pass. In fact, if I want true BBS, I need at least 4 passes (2 ATG) and often 5.
It takes willpower for me not to go for 4 passes. For example, yesterday I shaved with a new razor that had been promoted by the seller as shave ready. It wasn't quite and I had to do 5 passes yesterday. My face was sore afterward. Today I stopped after 3 and have been feeling, "maybe I should have gone another pass".
Maybe I should think "If I do 2 passes, I get to shave twice a day."
Nobody outside the wet shaving world would understand.

Well I tried this today to see if it'll work on days where i'm in a rush. I did a shower then shave this morning. Works pretty good for most of my face but it's definitely not BBS. it's really nice and smooth in WTG and XTG but ATG I can feel most of my stubble. Under my neck is pretty terrible with a one pass so I did a 2nd pass just to clear up some stragglers. Total Time was about 8 mins which worls for me!
I'm going to try again with a bit more prep before the shave like conditioner on my face in the shower see if that helps any.
Cheers!

Thanked: 278I can't limit myself to a single-pass shave, but sometimes the first pass goes so well that I know I really should stop.
It must be healthier for the skin to do a single-pass shave a few times a week.

Thanked: 735Glenn, when are you going to shave off that beard so as to have more real estate on your face with which to shave?

I have felt that one was enough on many days. I also think I would probably be better off shaving every other day but for now I am driven to shave daily. Funny how something that I used to look at as a PITA has transformed into a highlight of my day. Yesterday thinking of this thread I paid more attention to how I did after the first pass but I still did the second one as well. Like Lynn said earlier in this thread, once you get hooked on that bbs it is hard to settle for less.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I did a one-pass shave a year ago or so for a
few days, and it was a great learning experience.
The bottom of my chin is an area that is very
difficult for me to get smooth on the first pass,
so trying to get it there was good practice for
technique.

Thanked: 171Just so we're clear, how are you guys defining "one pass" ?
Are we talking about a single swipe straight down your face? Do multiple little overlapping swipes count? How about if you don't relather but you go over the same area again?
FWIW, I've been defining it as one pass as long as you don't relather or change stroke directions to something else such as XTG or ATG. Within those parameters, you can do strokes until you bleed as far as I'm concerned and it's still the first pass.
