I taught my son when he was 13. It is way cool! He lives with his Mom but on visits we both look forward to our straight razor shaves. It turned into a hobby for the whole family. We antique shop hunt, restore, hone as a family. When we shave Jr and I use the same gear. He's 17 now and we still enjoy everything about wet shaving w/ straight razors together.

    Good on you Carl

It's a great testimony to Straight Razor shaving
That your son wants to learn the art
I wish you and him both well in this venture

Aaron now has all his gear displayed on his sink at home like I have, he's out buying a strop right now...I think he's hooked...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Aaron and I are spending tonight listening to 'Rogue's Gallery' Rogue's Gallery - 2 CD Set - ABC Shop and honing. We're trying to hone the Eric Anton Berg Mikael gave me using Maxi's pyramid. We tried the conservative pyramid, then the aggressive and are now trying 20 passes on the 16k Shrapton.

Oh, I must say after a conservative, an aggressive, a conservative, and 20 laps on the 16k Shrapton, Aaron gave it a whirl and reported it was sharp :-). I actually wanted to do some honing but after only the first level of the first pyramid he took over. Two and a 1/2 hours later...

Then we discussed what to do with the scales. I thought maybe TI black horn scales and hand sanding, but I don't trust myself with drilling the hole, maybe my dad can help me? Then we thought again to stick with the original idea of sending it to Maxi. Aaron wants some wooden scales on the Emil Kronenberg I gave him, but he's too stingy to pay for them; he thinks 70 odd bucks is too much!!! So he's going to try and make his own. He's considering finding some bone lying around in a paddock if not wood. I'm not real confident with this idea, I think it'll be way too brittle.

Oh sorry! Just put that down to a newbie comment! I believe that is what one might term a Faux Pas...
I need to do more homework and less chatting! :-)
