We're both in the military and it's a MUST shave 5 days a week. It's the Queen's rules...

I am required to wear a respirator at work so I understand the desire/need for a BBS but the dirtball remark is what I question.

Beard growing contest rules state that we can't trim our beards; they are supposed to grow wild. There is no 'well manicured' beard here. I feel like a dirtball too.

    Well groomed may look alright.
Untouched for a month looks pretty rough though.

Shaving forum or not this is a great thread! Thanks for sharing

I did something similar 3 years ago. It started off in "Movember" of that year. Someone made a comment about hair growth, so I decided to leave the beard in its entirety than just the 'tache. To the amazement of others I had a full beard in no time but left it for 3-4 weeks, raising the most for charity as well!

When I finally came to shave it off, my straight went through it like a blow-torch through butter. I recall using the Martin de Candre soap to create gobs and gobs of lather. It was one of the best shaves of my life, nick-free, and yet very refreshing and comforting.

The moral of my story is that I think every man needs to leave the hairs to "come out" every once in a while. It's what nature intended and despite the scruffiness, it can be good for the winter months. I totally recommend it (only as a short-term thing), your skin will say thanks afterwards!

Not recent, but for hunting I let the whiskers grow in:

Four months growth on the stache and the chin and jawline. One month everywhere else except the neck. I can not stand whiskers on my neck.
All came off with my Heljestrand!!! I dared not place them in the sink otherwise I may have had to call a plumber, into the trash they went!

On long sleeve shirts - I have a couple as well, but only wear them when I will be chopping wood or felling trees. I normally wear shorts year long as well - unless I'm at work or preaching. I love the cold

Thanks for your additions to the thread guys!

I agree it's great to have some whiskers during the cold months. I used to grow a beard for hockey playoffs but the Leafs haven't been making it lately....

I shaved last around the second week of Jan. I am letting everything grow waiting out a new job interview. Like Gideon's fleece in the Old Testament. It shall groweth until I am moved unto a new job! God's Will be done in all seriousness though.
