These will be the first scales that aren't made from a paint stick, so fingers crossed eh.
Any advice is welcome, cos its success or bust now I'm scaling for real, they cost a bit more than the paint sticks do.- - Steve

Beautiful horn Steve. I learned through hard experience to cut a little larger than I needed because the sanding will downsize them more than I expected. This is especially true when trying to match another scale. What worked well for me was to trace the existing scale onto a peice of paper with a marker. Then glue the paper to the horn with white glue like Elmer's Glue-All. After it dries cut around the outside of the marker line. This makes the blank larger by the width of the marker line and a hair more.
If I am making a set I will glue the blanks together with low temperature hot glue before going to the belt sander. This way they keep the same shape more easily. The low temperature hot glue separates easily and peels off with a fingernail. The regular hot glue is harder to get apart and off but it does hold better.
There are some good in depth posts in the what are you working on thread.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 11-18-2022 at 02:42 PM.

I use double sided scotch tape. Its thin and will come apart when you want them apart. Put together and rough cut, sand to outer shape, drill, thin, then bevel shape. After that i pull them apart. But you have to be sure your blanks are flat on the insides before taping. And tape acording to what pattern on the horn you like. This means not lerfect corner to corner. Whateven gets you the best look.

Got this in the mail today. I could never keep a good track of how many times i used a blade and i stored them on on a magnet in the cabinet. Now i will be much better off. Safer and easier storage between shaves. I like to use lots of types of razors including straights. But now i will keep track muck better. Bought on Etsy. Im going to add some more weight to it as its just plastic with tiny magnets.
