I thought the attraction of #1 was the base and the lack of scent? So if we chose this for round 3, what would we be testing... a different base??

I liked #6 and #3 (in that order) for the fragrances, although I thought they both would need to be beefed up (ie, longer lasting fragrance) if that's the way we wanted to go.

And back to #5... personally, I really like Vetiver... and while the Rose was nice, might the same concoction do well if the Rose was replaced by a dribble of Tonka and perhaps a dab of Lime and Vanilla?
    Good Evening Gentlemen!

Joe those are very nice choices for the #5 scent....especially the vanilla

You tested #5 because it had good potential for a base.....but the rose blend, the way it smells....was not up for a SRP label.

The Base of number one is attractive because it is simple, and a good all around AS. It could be rounded out though, I can add small amounts of shea, to help with moisturing the skin, and another of the ingredients to aide with how your skin feels thru out the day. Just some minor tweaks.

While most of you liked the scent of #1....the scent of #3 and #6 was preferred.

So I can take the base of number one, and scent it with_________?

The base of four and five are variants of each other, so I could understand what needed to be adjusted, killing two birds with one stone. The key here is to take the best properties of number four and number five and put them together.

So the hybrid base of #4/5 can be scented with_______?

and the base #4/5 can be scented with a new blend......everyone already knows what #3 and #6 smells like. This is your test....your aftershave, just tell me what you would like....and it will be done " to the best of my ability "

Joe I like your idea....the rose can certainly be replaced with something else, I don't have any Tonka bean though. WoW!! lets try this....I'm going to tell you why I put those oils together and then you tell me what else want. For those of you who cook or like wine, beer or a good cigar....think of it exactly that way. The spices in cooking or the way that you can taste the different aromas/flavors of a good wine.

    * Black pepper......dry, spicy, hot
    * Coriander..........green like soft rosemary, but tart
    * Vetiver is .........smooth, rich and smoky
    * Geranium...........green like grass and smooth

Here is an example list of words......woody, green, citrus, oranges, sharp, crisp, lime, clean, fresh, spicy, smooth, sweet, tart, floral, sugar, vanilla, bourbon, tequila, leather, laundry hanging on the line, pine needles, fresh cut hay, old books, peaches, moss, and last but not least.....dirt....freshly turned garden soil.

Tell me from this list which smells appeal to you and lets just see what happens, post your word choices here.....and make up new words if you want to.

    Ready for test number 3

and then 4 and 5 and 6. Hey at my age if this testing takes long enough I won't have to buy anymore AS.

Hey this is great stuff even the stuff I didn't like as much...

    Good Morning Gentlemen,

I suppose I'll take a moment to give an overall update on TGQ's progress in the business world. Several conversations have been taking place behind the scenes regarding who is gonna "make the doughnuts" and who is going to be the "marketing presence" on the shaving forums. The short version.....all votes are that I need to be the person "present" and someone else needs to learn to make soap. I suppose in other words, I get to be the BOSS......the manager......The person barking out orders....lol.

Erica will continue to help me behind the scenes with a few things, and it looks as though there is a good possibility of hiring a young woman from the University to help me make soap. She is an exchange student from Nepal...... no shortage of exchange students here, needing a little part time work, so I think my small work force will comprise of exchange students. Which I think sounds like a lot of fun...hopefully we'll be able to understand each other.

There is a delay on the pages of the website.....but not for long. At this point it has more to do with having adequate stock and help. There is a certain element of fear to this ya know....either I will be flooded with orders .......or I won't ......geez.....this is all scary as hell to tell you the truth.....like my moment of reckoning is at hand.

The house next door should be together by the middle of next week and already some measure of organization exists.....which is such a relief.

For our round 3 test ( and round 3 is usually the last ) these items will not go out until next Monday.....sorry.....but between the house next door, the website and new part-time help...I'm just behind, no other way to put it.

I can see that our Point Man has been very decisive in his choice for our next round

When the AS's do go out, there will be the new EDC collection from TGQ included. I am looking for any comments for the strength of scent. I only made a small amount of ea. so I can adjust the strength accordingly based upon your comments.

The strength of the Scent for the AS will be moved to highest end that I feel comfortable with so this will help with the scent lingering on for more than 10 mi. ( I can always make an unscented AS for those who prefer little or no scent)

Are there any thoughts or ideas as to what you would like your SRP Aftershave Label to look like?

Such as.....background color ? Bold type ? how about a border.....? Masculine....Feminine.... LOL...... Would you like just the initials SRP.....? or maybe have it spelled out ? I've noticed at the top of the home page there is a design that fans out, perhaps some touch of that included to bind the two together for association.

Think about what you want and I'll spend a little time doing some rough drafts this weekend and when I send out round 3....I'll put them in with your Aftershaves. How would that be?

    XXWarm Regards, Colleen

Hmmm... sounds like all this talk of soap and lather and baby butt smooth just wasn't as exciting to Erica as it is to us. Probably the thoughts of our pont man in full commando shaving regalia was just too much for her!!!

    Oh well, regarding labels...

Assuming there may be other SRP aftershaves in the future, you may want to incorporate an "edition" in it's moniker (eg, "SRP No. 1", or "SRP Private Label 2007", or ?). I'd vote for a label that is reminiscent of the hey days of str8 shaving... late 1800's - 1930. I don't think the SRP Logo should be the focal point of the label but I guess it needs to be incorporated somehow.

BTW, the "official" SRP logo is:

No need to make her nauseous..

Or Cut Throat Lotion -- You will smelll better than you look.

Or Balm from the Ozarks-- It'll make your cousin say "I do"

yes its true, technically I fired my cousin....... geez, what kind of relative am I, just goes to show that blood is not thicker than the bill collector. Erica has tooooo much going on with her other job and the baby, and the day she said she could come to work, after NOT coming to work, but would need to leave early to get a tattoo, came as the end of her career at TGQ. A tattoo will never have the same importance as shaving cream or shaving soap. What the hell is the matter with young people these days!!

    Aftershaves will be as follows:

    .........base number 1......scented with #6

    .........base number 4/5....scented with #3

and maybe I won't label the bottles this time, just to mix it up a bit....a blind test so to speak....LOL

Mr. Point man, I actually LIKE your label ideas for the tag lines, a little humor is always good in this world, whatever happened to people having FUN. Maybe that could be written in small letters on the back where it says "not for human consumption"

Ed.......where are you? I need a forestry professor!! The dept. of agriculture came out the other day to look at our cedars, planted about 3 years ago...they've grown really well until last fall, and then this spring they look like hell, the tips are brown, creeping all the way to some of the leafy branches. The AG man said they have something called Tip Blite, (no insects or mites present) but felt that if they were treated aggresively and sprayed every 7-10 days for the rest of the summer, they might make it. Also suggested a little fertilizer.....2 teaspoons per tree, we've been a little light on rain too, so he suggested watering at the base of the trees twice a week when we have no rain, and not to wet the foliage, and not to water in the evening.

    So whats the problem??

I cannot find the recommended medicine that he suggested.....Marcozeb.....and only small spray bottles of generic fungicide at $7.00 a pop, which is enough to spray 3 or 4 trees, well hell.....we have 30 of them, and we're supposed to spray them every 10 days for the rest of summer Jimminy shit!

Were does a person order something like in bulk? any suggestions?

Good idea about the blind test maybe just A&B.

Thank you for noticing the humor my wife just usually shakes her head.

And unless her tatoo was TGQ in bold block letters you did the right thing.

Well, technically she's a Generation X'er... but things come later to the hills, don't they... So I guess she's a left over from the "Me Generation" !

    ...joe

PS - I could send a couple illegal aliens your way... they don't do a lot of work and are seldom in a hurry, but they will do it all day for $5 and a meal. Only caveats are 1)you have to speak Spanish to communicate with them and 2)you have to take them to Western Union once a month so they can send money back to Mexico.
