Since tallow-based soaps contain rendered animal fats, eventually they can spoil like butter or lard. It's not a requirement obviously, most soap makers expect you will use one product until it's gone (not enough time to spoil), not stockpile them

It is a good idea. I too keep some of my tallow based soap in the fridge. With time, tallow goes rancid and keeping it at low temperature greatly slow the process and therefore it may be kept for a truly longer time.

Thank you, I assumed that was the case but wanted to be sure. I do have a question about that but posted a thread for that.
