I tend to agree with most of your soaps Obie except in my own rotation I'm bumping Esbjerg grapefruit cream down to tier 2 and Tabac is going up to tier 1. I do this on smell alone. I find Tabac's scent intoxicating and right up there with Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet. The Esbjerg smells like the chewable vitamin C tablets I was forced to eat as a kid.

    Benz,
I love Tabac's scent, too, and have used the soap for years. It's good stuff. I agree with you on some Esbjerg scents. They are a wee bit too much.

A wee bit too much? My Esbjerg is so strong my Husky has to take an allergy pill every time I open it.

Hope he don't mark you as his territory. It's so strong my wife has to drive ahead of me 3 car lengths and into the wind... with AC on. I'm driving down the road and my car looks like a Mirage with the fumes coming out. Not for the faint hearted.

Interesting discussion on LPL. I haven't used mine in a while so I had to go and test it. Seemed fine. By choice I put most of my hard soaps in glass mugs (Nordic Mug, 13-ounce). I don't like the shallow bowls, I'm too messy. So no curing issue with LPL. Maybe get too dried out, not sure. I fill mug with hot water and soak brush in it so by default soap is soften up a little. I've had my best luck making lather from hard soaps this way. Then I rinse soap and mug clean, set upside down while I do other stuff, then dry and put away.

The Nuávia Blu is a great addition. Thanking you. I'm not much of a scent/fragrance person but I found the Blu intoxicating as well as a top performer.

MDC is still my top performer.

    Gentlemen,

After much consideration, and with all the conflicting thoughts offered by our friends here, I feel I should move Le Pere Lucien soap to the Second Tier. It's a good soap, but not good enough to sit at the same table with, say, Martin de Candre, Klar Seifen or Castle Forbes. I stopped using it a while back for some of the same negative reasons friends have offered here.

The Los Angeles Shaving Company sent me a tub of its Fougrere shave soap with my purchase of the BBS-1 safety razor. The razor is dazzling in looks and glorious as a shaver. The soap has impressed me enough to deserve a Second Tier seat in our lineup. I like the fragrance, which is pleasantly mild. The soap lathers well, is moist, and has good cushion and glide. It's good stuff.

    Spendur,
I think that's why I stopped using Esbjerg — mostly because of the fragrance. There is something medicinal about the fragrance. The soap is fine with lather, cushion and glide.

BBS-1 is made by Wolfman, of Canada, for the Los Angeles Shaving Soap Company. You have to get on the waiting list for the razor — when it is open. I waited more than a year for my BBS-1. It was worth the wait, as the BBS-1 is a superb razor.

Now, back to this thread's focus.

When you finally receive your BBS-1 from LA Shaving Soap Co., your package will also include a small synthetic brush and a tub of soap, plus some samples of other fragrances in the soap line. I ordered the Fougere. The scent is quite pleasing and mild. I like the lather, cushion and glide. I think it's a good soap. Of course, you can order the soap without a razor purchase.

I could tell you how I feel about The Los Angeles Shaving Soap Company, but I figure this picture says it all.
