I've been enjoying Oleo shaves for the past week plus--a very nice performing vegetal! Will revisit Wholly Kaw--scent I tried a couple months ago didn't work for me but the tallow formula was great (will order the tallow samples--didn't see those with my original order and so bought blind).
I'm with you, Phrank--am waiting for the new Castle Forbes 1445 cream to cross the pond!
BTW: The great Le Père Lucien experiment continues...3 tins of the stuff are still drying after nearly 17 weeks....Last edited by SemperFi; 11-22-2017 at 10:26 PM.

Thanks for the feedback on your LPL, Jerry.
Once mine stops drying, I'll post the results in a new thread and link back in this one to where I mentioned the issue. Am hoping the drying solves some issues with the soap but in my mind, waiting 4 months or more for it to cure isn't good....
My initial thoughts are that a product should be ready when it goes up for sale. Oh well, lots of other great alternatives--at least we can let folks know why their LPL may not be performing well when they first buy it, or, better yet, buyer beware before making a purchase.Jay

Jay, even after drying I find it lacking in slickness and the aftershave feel. Its is a nice soap but I feel the same as you about it being ready when you get it. Luckily I got mine on a give-away over on B&B over a year ago so it didn't cost me anything.
BTW, While mine was drying I kept poking at it. Smooshing it around the tin (Beautiful tin that it comes in) and found it still soft but not drying any more. No mater what, I will be keeping the tin for display! It's just Sharpening, right?

But I,m excited, haven't heard Obie go on like this over any Artisan made soaps, hope to have a great experience too. Thanks guys, I was not spending my money and here it goes again. I,m such a soap and brush whore. Tc

That reminds me that I need to send you some Wholly Kaw, TC. I just had another shave with my current favorite combo of WK King of Oud and my velvet squeegee Boker Our Own Hollow Ground. That lather is just so slick, rich and skin nourishing, and my favorite Boker just glides right through it. They have got to be experiencing a sales spike with the current forum buzz ahead of Christmas no less.

It's pretty dry up here now, if I hang a brush in my downstairs den now, the brush will dry in about two hours, nothing like winter air to dry things out, unboxed the LPL and put them out again...actually did that last night, while I was grumbling to myself about sending an email either asking for a replacement for the 5 tins I have or a refund....still kinda SMH over the whole thing.
WK Monaco Royale and Dark Vetiver, both absolutely superb, and Jay, yea, the Castle Forbes....that should be a treat.

TC,
Through the years, I tried a variety of artisan soaps and creams. Oh, they worked: made lather, helped in my shave, but none really struck my fancy. There was always something, or somethings, missing in the overall quality. Then came along Oleo Soapworks and Wholly Kaw and bang! I am really delighted with these two soaps, enough to float them in the same company as the legends.
Incidentally, El Caballero (now named New City, I think) from Oleo Soapworks gave me a little burn around the mouth and chin areas. Weird. It's in the shower now. The others are just fine. The only reason I have not tried the Tobacco something or other from Wholly Kaw is the fear of burn with all the robust ingredients in it. I might give in one of these days.
The one soap I also really like is the Wickham 1912 Russian Leather, available from Connought in Britain. I love the fragrance, and the soaps does well overall. There are other fragrances, but I am a sucker for the "leather" scents.
Ah, there is so much good stuff available. We're lucky to be living in this age because of these wonderful shave soaps and creams. Otherwise, though, I hail from the 19th Century. I know I will be there in my next life — and go for long walks with Dickens and Jane Austen, Schumann and Brahms.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, TC, my gentleman friend — and all my gentleman friends here.Last edited by Obie; 11-23-2017 at 01:37 PM.
