The Obie Memorial First Tier Soaps and Creams Thread.

I guess my greatest fear would be getting a soap that everyone rates as a top tier soap only to find that it's not meant for my skin (I have some weird skin). Being new to this I do want to try some of the top tier soaps, but I have to be very careful or I'll breakout and regret it. One time I couldn't shave for two weeks because my face broke out so bad. Had to see a dermatologist over that fiasco.

Yes, that is one of the major and serious variables when you discuss soaps/creams. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to know if you will suffer a reaction to any particular product unless you know for sure what ingredient/ingredients cause the reaction.

Think a moment what makes a fine wine or a great beer. Often times it's a subtle quality. My point was this subtlety is what makes it tier one over another soap that may be technically perfect but lack that quality.

This is the chance we have to take if we want to discover new things. I have been burned in such way many times upon discovering a certain soap or cream irritates my skin. Meisner Tremonia is one example; it torched my skin. So did several popular French soaps, including Savonnerie du Bon Berger and La Savonniere du Moulin. The Italian Boellis Panama 1924 destroyed my skin, although some gentlemen love it. And so it goes.

Tonight i tried Tabac for the first time.

I LOVE the scent. I really do. I also found it very easy to get a good soap to water ratio. Got a great shave. Tabac products are solid IMHO. I douse myself in the cologne on a regular basis.

I have just ordered in a few more off of Obies first tier. Esberg and Le Perre Lucien and waiting patiently on the shelf for their turn.

Obie thank you again for this thread. I have about 10 soaps now and all of them are in my top tier. You made the selection process very simple my friend.

I also like Tabac, and Acqua Di Parma Shaving Soap, a Tier 1 IMO if there ever was one, is like Tabac from Heaven...IMO of course.....

Yes, Tabac is a fine soap. The lather explodes in volume, providing good cushion and glide. I love the scent, too. Good stuff.

This is an open ended Thanks to Obie and the other members who have given their input.
There are so many soaps, Few shave shops where one can visit. Let alone whip up a lather before you buy.
What this thread has done is , introduce me to soaps I never heard of or would have tried.
