It has a very, very light lemon scent, that disappears very quickly.

I apply, and by the time I'm ready to head out, follow up with some aftershave or cologne.

I used the "88" for the first time yesterday. As far as I can tell, it is identical to Oxford & Cambridge except for the scent, which I happen to like very much! It's obviously a great performer, but there is something in that scent that I can't identify, that takes me back to my childhood... But, I can't place it!
In any case, I can understand that some folks say they cannot get on with the scent ... purely personal. Scents and the memory have strong psychological connections, so there may be something there going back to my youth, but I'm well taken with the aroma!

At this point in time, unlike many soaps here, when this puck is used up, there will be a refill on order!
My next shave, which will be today or tomorrow, already have the "88" lined up - been a month or two since I last tried it - so going to uber load the brush, let it sit in the scuttle as usual - then give it another go.

Many times, I find I'm coming back to soaps I've thought were pooched, and finding out they're quite nice - I won't be surprised to take another view on this "88".

Simpson's Chubby 1 super badger also lined up, just haven't decided on the razor yet...haha..which is half the fun.

No. 88 is a rose oud, and not everyone likes oud, although it's now very popular. One could also call it a dark rose. No. 88 is my favorite soap, as well as fragrance, with Oxford and Cambridge a close second.

Only first shave, but the the scent leapt out right away, a sharper smell that you'd associate with an aftershave splash, and slightly sharper than the MdC's scent. Great soap, has a texture more like a croap though, not the harder soap of the Patchouli, the Traditional or the Rose, so loads fairly easily and would be easy to overload, same as the MdC, not a lot goes an awful long way - easily in the Tier 1 with all the other LPL.

    Enjoy Gentleman...
Phrank my LPL started being finicky again. I broke out the MdC and was blown back in my chair by how quick and such a luxuriant lather it makes.
Perhaps I will load LPL from the tin. Used the snurdler method and didnt gauge the dab correctly. Not knowing how its going to act its going to Tier 2 for a bit.

Rose, that explains it, and I quite like Rose scented soaps.

Rose Oud - yes, that explains its depth, thanks Richard - for the record, Oud is:

The resin embedded wood is commonly called gaharu, jinko, aloeswood, agarwood, or oud (not to be confused with bukhoor) and is valued in many cultures for its distinctive fragrance, and thus is used for incense and perfumes.

Next shave, going to use the Catie's Bubbles (which has impressed me with the two I have), and compare it to the "88"....the Rose gives a much higher note I find, so the "88" is a conundrum...hope I've got this right.

Catie's Bubbles has a rose soap, going to use that next time, just to compare, the Catie's Bubbles are nice soaps, inconsistent it seems to me, but when they deliver a nice one, it truly is quite nice. An old Bay Rum (which I'm not fond of but was gifted to me), performed beautifully, while one or two others I've tried have been "meh"...

LPL code is broken. Soap is so hard run under hot tap 20seconds then load. Much better load. Took Soap Commander to LPL side by side. You already know who won, Pictures to show

USG - another thing I've noticed with the LPL soaps.

The Vegetal soaps don't seem to lather as well as the non-Vegetal....the Cologne / Fougere doesn't seem to perform as well as the LPL Traditional...maybe it's just me...anyone else notice the difference between the Vegetal and non??

In the name of science, hit it with your hot tap water and give it another go, it became another soap after the hot water. I only have Vegetal so I cannot compare. I did check the firmness of the soap post pics and that metal tin held heat and softened the whole tin. Soap jumping leaves me with some hard pucks. Even the creams set after 2 years.

I agree - as I found some very hot water sitting on top of the LPL for about 5 minutes while I prepped made a nice difference in loading the brush, as well as loading for about 2 to 3 times longer than usual - that seems to have been a fault of mine I've slipped into lately - rushing the loading...no wonder I've had some fails with the lather....but I agree, softening the soap prior to loading will definitely make loading much easier.

In my test a Harrywally Badger brush loaded quicker than a synthetic Muhle by a long shot. No backbone on a hard soap is a forever load. Thank-you for testing with me. Next I will try Czech & Speake. Stateside B&M makes a great tallow soap, that is never stingy on scent, just need to like the smell. I swear if I come into Windsor I should get a better rate on mail and send you samples to play with. I am not cheap but shipping is a bear across country lines.
