Thread: Are there any more good tallow triple-milled soaps - besides DRH, MWF, Tabac and C&S?

From my experience it took me a little while to learn to generate a truly great lather from MWF but I never really had any real problem developing a lather. I will say that I generally get a better lather with my badger brush than with my synthetics and that my water is softened. I wonder if MWF is more sensitive to hard water issues than some other soaps.

A stiffer brush works well with MWF; I use a Vulfix Grosvenor, which is a mixed badger and boar bristle.

I will give my opinion but modern Williams for me and to me it seem’s to be triple milled. I know there’s lots of wet shavers who doesn’t like it, but it works very best for me. It’s also a tallow based soap.

Four years since I've opened this thread, and now the list is even shorter: it's 5 options overall, 3 of which doesn't offer any variety of scents.
    D.R.Harris
    Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Williams Mug
    Tabac
    Henri et Victoria

    And that's all

Personally, I don't get along with Williams so the list is even shorter for me. You can't even find Williams in local retail shops in my locale anymore.

I really like Henri et Victoria

Henri et Victoria Duc de Santal Artisan Tallow Shaving Soap, 4 oz - Triple Milled.

The scent is sort of green tobacco to my nose based on the fact that I have a sample of tobbacco (green) from WSP and they smell very similar, a clean smell.

It's not a strong scent, my wife has a real problem with a lot of my shaving soap so much that I have to wait untill she goes downstirs and puts the TV on before I shave and then stay in the computer room for a couple of hours until it settles down.

That's not the case with Duc de Santal, it's subtle enough that I can use it after breakfast and be around my wife but not scent free by any means.

I've brought up lye soap before. Grandma' Pure Soap is the one I get from the Ace Hardware.

Mike I know you got some and were going to try it and report back. I guess you didn't like it since I never heard anything else about it. It isn't a real lathery soap, much like Mitchell's but it is very slick. The one main problem I have is that it doesn't fit in the mug well unless you grate it. It has no fragrance added at all which I like. It's also very gentle on your skin.

    Is that shave soap?
It looks like a bar of soap.
