No it's not a shaving soap but it is made of lye and lard. Since many of the better shaving soaps are are high in tallow or lanolin I figured I would give it a whirl. It has worked very well for me. Mainly I like that it doesn't have fragrance which I hate about many of the shaving soaps. I personally don't want to go around smelling like perfume for one thing but also my wife and son suffer from migraines which.can be brought on by scents. She can't even walk through the department stores near the perfume counter or it's down for the count.

I didn't know that.!
Was a awesome soap, then. Loved water, weather hard or soft.
Paul. I could shower with it, but the smell of the tallow was too much to want to shave with. Did leave my skin feeling great, and hydrated.
I do occasionally shave with a lather made from a bar of goats milk, soap.Mike

I see these bars of goat milk soap in the grocery store. I've been threatening to buy a bar of that to try it but just haven't done so yet.
I've heard people say that you can use that lye soap before hunting instead of buying the high dollar ani-scent soap. Lye is made from ashes which is what the American Indians used to rub on themself to kill scent before hunting so it does make sense.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 07-04-2021 at 09:19 PM.

Alum kills the bacteria that causes the stink we humans have.
Just dissolve some in a spray bottle, and hose yourself and clothes, before going huntin.Mike

I think that's what the soaps and sprays mainly are anyway.

I liked how well Tabac worked, but hated the scent.
It smells exactly like " Oil of Olay ". A skin cream that my mother used to slather herself in.
Always made me feel ill in the guts, and so did Tabac.Mike

Can someone please explain why they are doing this?
Shaving soaps are targeting a very specific group of consumers, the wet shavers. And wet shavers love tallow soaps. So why are they doing it? For sure, I will never buy again tabac soap and I believe many wet shavers will do so. They only loose money.
